The camera work was excellent, but they didn't do a good job drawing me into the story. Apparently mankind was doomed because of the infertility problem, but for some reason I just didn't feel it from watching the movie. Maybe they should have devoted some time to explaining the cause of the problem?

The whole idea that the youngest person alive was killed and he was 18 years old didn't do anything?

killing an 18 yr old = global infertility?

Camera work was great. Story not so much.

It seemed like Jurassic Park all over again:

1. OH NO! RUN!!!
2. Phew, we made it.
3. Cut to new scene where they're somewhere else with a new friend.
4. GOTO 1

Well, movies are like that. You have to think deep into what ideas movies like this expose and what the themes are.

This is what the people who watched it with me said.

They watched a movie about what might happen if we couldn't reproduce. There's nothing deep about that. The idea is interesting to think about sure, but the movie itself wasn't groundbreaking or thought provoking. What if we cloned dinosaurs? You don't see anyone calling Jurassic Park deep.

Add to that the fact that they changed the order of practically everything from the book, and it was the MEN who were infertile, not the women, and Julianne Moore was the one who was supposed to get pregnant.

Loved the movie just because the scenes seemed very unique in their own respect. A lot of the gunfire had a very realistic tone to it. But I really liked the hippy living out in the woods. He was hillarious. "Ah this music helps me relax"

It was a very good movie.

What many people fail to understand is that it was really about Clive Owen's character, not the woman/baby. People who complain about the infertility/current events not being explained to their satisfaction or the ending have been spoiled by formulaic Hollywood films for too long.

crappy movie. Next?

great movie. Some people just don't have intellectual capacity to understand it.

 Or did understand it and still didn't care for it.

*not directed at mugs*

lol, everything always turns into an "i'm better than you" argument around here.
"I'm smarter", "funnier", "better looking", "make more money", "my wal-mart sucks more than yours does", "UPS lost your package? oh yeah? well UPS lost my package, killed my dog and got my sister pregnant!"

someone always has to 1 up someone else here. sometimes its funny but most of the time its just pathetic.

I don't know what is with your obsession with jurassic park, but this movie is a lot different than jurassic park. Love it or hate it, Children of Men offered a lot of ideas about humankind. There were only a couple of chase scenes. There were other action scenes but they were people caught in the middle, not people running from dinosaurs type stuff. You probably thought Schindler's List was like Jurassic Park too by that logic.

In Jurassic park the dinosaurs weren't rebelling against other dinosaurs or using something that was literally the salvation of humankind as a pawn in a political battle. The "main character" in jurassic park had no arc of any sort.

For some reason the movie reminded me of Half Life 2.

Just watched this movie tonight, and YES i thought the exact same thing!!

It actually reminded me of the HP Prisoner of Azkaban movie. Turns out the same guy directed both...

Meh, it was good except for two big problems:

1) His refuse to use real weapons was ridiculous at times.

2) The ending was awful. The ship should have never come. It should have just ended with her out in the boat with her kid and left the audience guessing about what happened.

That's one of the reasons I loved this movie. Everyone is trying to make their stories and movies really really long and complex. Look a two of the biggest movies this year, Pirates and Spider-man, and they are too long and there's too much crap in them.

Children of Men had a simple story with a simple goal and it delivered throughout. It also was less than 2 hours long which is almost unheard of these days.

Exactly.. Simplicity is what makes an awesome movie. I loved Children of Men.
