it looked like it was trying too hard to say something profound. i thought it failed and was boring and predictable.

It was lame
I thought there was going to be more to actually make the movie have an ending, but it just suddenly ended
Definitely a bad movie

Like what? Flash forward twenty years to a schoolyard full of happy children laughing and playing? That would have been amazingly lame.

see the human project and everything
i don't want to see the main character get shot and then for the story to end
it was a dumb way to end the story

Arguably one of the top 3 Sci-Fi movies ever made. Intelligent, current, simple, gorgeously shot, perfect story. Perfect ending (FYI: the theme is Hope; nothing more, nothing less--which is why the ending is perfect)

I feel like a broken record every time this flick is mentioned, or this thread resurrected.

Any movie that manages to incorporate Pink Floyd and King Crimson get bonus points from me. Just recently saw Blindness which also has a similar "what if" scenario.

The movie sucked, so people should be pissed it wasn't up for any Oscars.

It was up for cinematography. And it was actually really good. So your statement makes no sense.

Any is a bad choice of words, it wasn't up for best picture is my point, and that's what some are upset about.

again. the film is about HOPE.

that's exactly what the ending gives you. being that the main character and focus of the story is dead, why go any further?

This was his story, so the story ends when he does.

Did someone complain about it not being up for Best Picture? I'm pretty sure you're inferring this from some assbackwards logic.
