I just started Warhammer 40k...

After playing Warmachine and Infinity (and sold everything), I settled on only one miniatures game I would support and as weird as it may sound, I chose 40k. The local community is awesome and active and the game have Space Vikings so what's not to like!

I already have a little force, assembled, primed and ready for action. already played a couple of games and it's freaking fun. Simple rules, cool gameplay and awesome options to customize an army.

Any 40k players here? I'd like to see your armies, paint schemes, terrain and tables!

I played chaos marines in early 2000's and all I can say is if they are anything like they were then you will need to say goodbye to all your money. 😉

I should look into seeing if they are worth selling online as they are in storage somewhere still.

For space marines by the looks of it I would go with dark blue and gold accent like you see a lot for them.

Never could get into Warhammer. I'm an X-wing miniatures junkie. Prepainted and much more socially accepted 😛

used to play, been trying to revisit a necromunda league but can't find enough interest.

There's also a Mordheim group locally...it's a pretty weird meta around here but people are easy going and chill.

I've always enjoyed 40k lore. The pen & paper games not so much bit I barely tried them. I've been meaning to go to a hobby shop near me that has a 40k night.

Yeah....X-wing. It starts out with a core set.

Then....you build up squads...

And more squads....

And then $1500 later you end up with something like this....

Mistakes were made.

Typical X-wing 100 point match lasts 60-75 minutes. Or as quick as 20 minutes if you do a massive alpha strike. Tournaments are really getting to be a big thing and are what helped X-wing take over Warhammer as the #1 selling miniature game out there. Tournaments are 6-12+ hour day long events.

I played about 15 years ago I think?
I have a painted Eldar army and a Tau Army that's mostly put together but not painted.
I also have a mostly painted Dark Elf army.

I have too many other hobbies to afford it anymore, but I'm going to keep my sets in case I have kids and they ever show any interest.

Gentlemen, we have just entered the danger zone.

*googles furiously*

Warhammer 40k has some cool lore and sounds potentially fun, but Games Workshop is basically the devil so I will never buy anything they are associated with.

I own the base set of this game, but I've never played it because I can't get my wife interested in it even though she's a star wars fan. 🙁 Waiting until my daughter is old enough and then maybe I can get her hooked. 😀

My wife loves board games, but she won't touch x-wing. Not exactly sure what it is that spooks her but it just went past her comfort zone into "that" kind of gaming that she was just too cool for 😛

My 8 year old daughter has played it a few times, but she's not into star wars at all. My 4 year old son is infatuated with it, but he's just a bit too young to play.

Check out your local gaming shops and see if they have any open play nights. Most metro areas have at least a few gaming groups that get together and play weekly. It's a very fun community. I hang out a lot on the reddit group for it.

Used to play, stuff costs more than twice as much what it cost when I was a teenager so i can't bring myself to build another army. I prefer Warmachine or Malifaux, not only are they cheaper to play but I prefer having fewer models with more complex rules rather than having hordes of models that are practically cannon fodder. Nothing like having your $50 dreadnaught destroyed before it even gets to move or having half of a marine squad blown away in one shot from a battle cannon. I still have a big space marine army and a smaller eldar force, the models just feel too overpriced for me to build up any more.
