I just spent $80+tax on a small trash can, AMA

Apparently the Simplehuman 38L rectangular wide step trashcan is being cycled out for a new variant that includes a trash bag holder. I bought a 30L at BB&B today with a 20% off coupon. Ended up being $80+tax.

It isn't a bad trashcan. Pretty nice. However, the 30L does feel small... It's 8 gallons. I'm used to a 10gal/38L or maybe even a 50L/13gal. However, the 30L was what was available. That's what I had to get. :/ It being small though also lines up with where I am though.

Moved into another place here in San Jose. Studio. Small. Whatever. Bought a window unit AC on Amazon too. Should be here in a few days. Installation will be brutal since I'll be installing it in a sliding glass window.

Gotta spend-spend-spend.

I'm looking to buy a new wireless router. Thoughts on what to get? I'd like all the features! (I'm going to keep it for 5+ years)

I might wait for the MU-MIMO routers to come out. I'm looking at eventually getting wireless security cameras. So, having the best wireless router (within reason) is important to me.
 
Oh, Trident problems. I had to get that $80 fancyass trashcan because I couldn't find another much cheaper one at Walmart or Amazon or whatever.

It's a freaking trashcan. It holds my trash. I could never justify $80+ on a trashcan when the $13 Rubbermaid step one I got from Wally World does the job just fine.

I guess this means he got that $100k+ job though. Oh wait... lol
 
Wow, just wow. First off $80 for an 8-gallon trash receptacle is beyond stupid, is it a "smart" trash can that sends out a notification to an app when it's full?. Oh, the AC, you CANNOT install a window-shaker in a sliding glass door unless you replace said door with a wall of some type and cut a hole it it for the AC to mount it.

Yeah, aware. It requires engineering. I'll probably make a wooden frame for the unit that encases it and fits the outside of the window frame. There is no good alternative. If I want AC, I have to buy a window unit. I don't have any place where a portable AC unit would work well (and a portable AC unit is really ineffective compared to window units).

I'm not sure what my trash can cost. I had two custom lower cabinets made (one for mixed recycling and one for trash) with a pull out drawer and a trash can liner that fits into the apparatus. I suppose that it would be the cost of the two cabinets, the soft-close guides, and the 6 to 8 square feet of marble counter top.

Having a trash can out in the open in a kitchen clutters things. I do have miniature Simplehuman cans in the bathrooms, though.

There is an alternative to a window-unit, it's called a "split-system" where you can mount the inside air-box anywhere convenient and the only thing you will need to do is drill some holes for the refrigerant, condensation line and power for the outside condenser like this type.
 
My trash can came with the house, it's in a closet and it's one of those basic plastic ones, I don't know why a trash can would be something you want open on display.
 
i bought most of my trash cans from a flea market, guy had some old metal ones for a buck a piece. nice and sturdy, i just repainted them and they are as good as they were in the 50's.

Those are actually kind of tempting. They are fully DIY right? It has a quick connect for the refrig lines so no need to mess with refrigerant?

I want to get central air eventually but it's hard to justify the cost considering our summers are getting shorter every year. This could be the next best thing. They make 24,000 BTU ones even, that would do the whole house easily.

I'm not sure as to how they are installed, go to one of the manufacturers websites and download the instructions, from what I can see you will need 220V though.
