Quick! Someone make fun of him like he just bought $200 jeans!

I know, I know, it's a stretch.

As for your answer...no.

meh, shoulda spent more on the mask and less on the fins.

I sure hope you tried on the mask first to make sure it fit/sealed your face well.

That I did, it was just a special order of the color I wanted(black skirt w/ yellow). They aren't sold online.

There aren't many masks that cost more than $100 unless you get into fancy colored lenses or with the reg built in.

??? mine was like 150.

Love it. It's like a glove.

Now all you need is the big stuff. BC, computer. Careful, this is a very expensive hobby.

But still to this day one of the best things I've ever done with my life. Not many people get to experience it.

funny story...

I was in costa rica a few weeks ago and just did some snorkeling. I would dive down to like 25 feet and I kept wanting to breath in. almost did a few times. It's really weird NOT wanting to breathe underwater once your somewhat experienced.

Already got that stuff... I was upgrading some of the basics ;)

Which mask do you use?

I forget. It's been so long since I bought it 150 is probably way off.

I think it's a "liberator" if i remember. Need to get into diving again and go more advanced/nitrox. But dang, talk about an expensive hobby.

Yeah I hear ya, This was just some of the "minor" equipment. The guys at the shop tried to talk me into upgrading my dive computer too. I asked them how much the one they were showing me cost....$600. I had to say no to that one ;)

it's been so long...but man the nicer computers are seriously nice. They can do anything.

But I guess when it comes to your life, don't skimp.

surfaced with less than 100 pounds once, had to cut stop short. won't do that again.

Fins - $200

Gotta hate when you walk into a store surrounded by everything you want....

What's so special about that $100 mask?

Those fins are awesome though. I wish they'd come down in price. My buddy picked up a pair of used split fins for $40 but I have yet to see any show up again.

That will be upgraded in time ;). That would probably be next one my list as my SP G500 still serves me very well.

Guaranteed never to break, uses high quality lenses that are colorless, Low Volume, high viewing angle.

Basically just high quality.

I think I am in <3 with Atomic now

Ugh.

Do yourself a favour & get a pair of the original Jet Fins. You'll buy one pair, and use them for the rest of your life.

Ah, you like the classics. I tried the splits and loved them compared to the jets. There is so much personal preference that you can't really ever say "this is the best"

I know scuba Diving magazine had a huge Fin Shootout in October 2005 where they rated everything.

Not sure what you bought though...

I bought the Atomic Splitfin. The one in that test is the full foot version however, which isn't usually used for SCUBA, more of a snorkeling thing.

While we're talking fins and dive stories....

This jackass had some seriously nice gear and talked up a storm before the dive. got him in the water and he was a panicked/sketchy SOB. knocked off my mask and my SOs mask twice on a night dive because he was so sketchy and unaware of his surroundings with his big fat fins.

Word to the newbies - you are not the only one in the water, when close to other divers avoid strong kicks and sketchy movement. OP - I know you're not a newb...just a miny rant.

I had the EXACT same thing happen. I was pissed, I talked to the guy after the first dive and just told him to watch where he was kicking because he knocked my mask off during the dive. It got better after that but I still got a few fin kicks to the head
