I asked just for rc5 and for help indeed. The other projects have lots of very capable people to do their own recruiting. I don't divide my attention.

I only mentioned Blue Horizon. I did not explicitely mention all the other computers these guys might have but I did make our predicament clear to the person in charge. If they were willing or able to help us, they would have offered them. This is a University Supercomputer Center. I understand the need to restrict access.
 
hmm. I used to go to school at UCSD and have a couple of friends who are still zebras (net techies) at the SDSC. Maybe I can convince them to run DnetC on some lesser iron...
 
Well, my friend responded. No dice..but there is a silver lining. He started two older client machines in the media lab (Dell Pentium Pro 200s), so looks like we're getting another 1100 kkeys/sec out of it. 🙂

You won't see any national supercomputing facilities cracking RC-5 while in production mode. Mainly because poor suckers like me who have to write research proposals to run on these machines would go postal! 😉

I think what the guys meant was did you ask them if they would join TA with their old inactive account so that all the blocks they've already done would be credited to the TeAm. This way they wouldn't have to run the client & the team would still benefit from the blocks they've already done.🙂

My friend there at the SDSC mentioned that computer time for all of 2001 has already been scheduled... (!) Pretty amazing to think how much work systems like that can do in a year's time.
