:D

Worse thing that can happen is they say "No", and unlike a forward proposition to a lady, you don't even run the risk of getting slapped.

Leastways, they got a few million blocks out of the way that we no longer have to search through.

Even if they say no, they still might donate their existing blocks to us.

Denis,

I wonder if they'll want to be their own Integral, or become part of your herd?:D

I offered them their own page. I dunno if they'll even answer. That report was one year old but the address appears to still work since my email went through. :)

Update: No cigar but it was worth a try. :)

"Hi. I'd love to be able to help you out, but I'm afraid that won't be possible. Blue Horizon is now dedicated to academic research and is oversubscribed as is. We were able to try it out on the rc5-64 challenge during its testing phase, but we haven't done it since then and there are no plans to do so anytime soon.

Good luck chasing those Dutch Power Cows.

..Dave"

It was a very long shot at best but if you don't ask, you're sure not to get it. So I asked. ;)

WOW
Now that was a quick responce. I thought we would hear about this in a week or so;)
Nice try though, did you ask for the just to join our team just to help us out? Since they are no longer in rc5, and I bet you were the first to ask. Just a thought

Denis,

You got laid a lot when you were younger, didn't you?;)

I asked just for rc5 and for help indeed. The other projects have lots of very capable people to do their own recruiting. I don't divide my attention.

"You got laid a lot when you were younger, didn't you?"

Hehe. That was the swinging 70s. ;)P My motto used to be: "If you show up, they will come". :p

Cool  Denni

Maybe if you asked, they would roll their numbers into TA. :)

Edit - I thought everyone got laid in the 70's

what I meant was did you ask them just to join the rc5 team, with just what they have, since they no longer are active.

That's what I get for trying to drink and think at the same time ;)

I only mentioned Blue Horizon. I did not explicitely mention all the other computers these guys might have but I did make our predicament clear to the person in charge. If they were willing or able to help us, they would have offered them. This is a University Supercomputer Center. I understand the need to restrict access.

hmm. I used to go to school at UCSD and have a couple of friends who are still zebras (net techies) at the SDSC. Maybe I can convince them to run DnetC on some lesser iron...

Well, my friend responded. No dice..but there is a silver lining. He started two older client machines in the media lab (Dell Pentium Pro 200s), so looks like we're getting another 1100 kkeys/sec out of it. :)

You won't see any national supercomputing facilities cracking RC-5 while in production mode. Mainly because poor suckers like me who have to write research proposals to run on these machines would go postal! ;)

dennilfloss,
I think what the guys meant was did you ask them if they would join TA with their old inactive account so that all the blocks they've already done would be credited to the TeAm. This way they wouldn't have to run the client & the team would still benefit from the blocks they've already done.:)

MereMortal,
My friend there at the SDSC mentioned that computer time for all of 2001 has already been scheduled... (!) Pretty amazing to think how much work systems like that can do in a year's time.
