I just retired my Sony FW900 CRT

I too have 2x 21" sony tubes in dell p1130 monitors.

Do people here really think you have poor corner focus in these monitors? I find a lot of the negative comments come from individuals who have never used a high quality crt. A friend of mine recently bought a supposedly very good 24" lcd (based on reviews), and in side by side comparisons with my dell 21" was very disappointed in the lcd.

I guess I'll stay a dinosaur.

ugh... sorry to break this to you, but a 21" Trinitron do have focus related geometry problems at the corner. The glass of these monitors aren't flat you know. And I don't consider a 21" trinitron a high end model either. A 24" Sony wide screen would be higher end.

And I don't know what exactly your friend bought recently, but a "very good 24" lcd" would be something like a Dell 24" IPS, and it will blow away the 21" sony crt any day. Your friend must have bought a TN based lcd. Let's be real.

I've had an IBM P275 sitting next to a BenQ FP241w for several years now, and I must say, I'd swap the CRT for a 2nd LCD if the price was right.

The P275 has better contrast, but the BenQ has very low input lag and response time, since it lacks post-processing found in many newer LCDs, so I consider them on equal footing there. Unlike the Dell 2409, ghosting is nonexistent. My P275 has good focus in the corners and is still very sharp, but even several years ago, the colors were warmer and more saturated on the LCD (an MVA panel), making the CRT look somewhat dull even after tweaking, and it has faded slightly since then. Being an MVA panel, the FP241w's viewing angles are not an issue, and it doesn't have the grainy look of most IPS panels (admittedly, I don't mind that though).

On the CRT, the colors tend to drift, and the geometry needs to be adjusted every few weeks. It also doesn't look right until it's been on for a while.

On the plus side, I do actually need this monster to hold my desk together.

This makes me one on of the last Sony Trinitron CRT holdouts!

Clearly your video card is next on your upgrade list for Cyber Monday!

I'm still rocking my 19" Sony Trinitron 420GS. I can't justify replacing it as long as it still works as well as it does...and IIRC, I bought it new in 98.

I still got my Sony Trinitron G500, which dad found at a garage sale ~5 years ago for $30 haha. The lady said she paid $3000 for it new.

I got mine on sale when The Good Guys got out of computers. IIRC, retail was about $800...and I got it for $500. I'd love to find a bigger one at a garage sale for $30. 😛

This is no new invention:

Adapter_DVI_to_VGA.jpg

heh-heh...I keep getting those when I buy video cards...but never needed one...until my last build when the card didn't have a VGA port. 😱
The new card came with one...but I have several in my junk drawer.

Maybe one of these days I'll move to a LCD...maybe.
When they first came out...they sucked, especially for gaming, but they're getting better and better. I used them all the time in college, and had one on my desk at the last job.

Don't laugh when the converter is like $200. You can lol if it was like $20, but for $200 you can get a new video card or monitor or both(if you get cheap ones).

LOL only $178 "special price" for a converter. I think the only one lol'ing are the sellers of these device to all the crt suckers

Then find me these DVI-D video cards.
My GTX580 still uses DVI-I:

DVI Output : Yes x 2 (DVI-I)

Show me which cards I am missing out on? :whiste:

Well I guess my eyes are just terrible, as I'm staring at the corners right now and see NO distortion.

Yes, it is an tn that many reviewed as very good. Your sole opinion of relative quality is not as important to others as it is to yourself. What you think is exactly that, what YOU think.

I maintain my position. A good trinitron 21" crt is better than most (90%+) of lcd monitors in use. Seamless resolution scaling (for gaming) is just icing on the cake.

Another big thing is how thin the lcd is. SO WHAT, if space is available. I only see the front of the screen anyway.

To end it, let us all enjoy our preferences.

getting rid of my FW900 was the stupidest thing i have ever done regarding computer tech

i miss it 🙁

This thread just keeps on giving and giving 😛

I used to have a really nice 22" IBM that was a rebranded Trinitron, replaced it two years ago with a Dell 2209WA and haven't looked back. I still find most LCDs inferior to CRTs that are in good working shape, but the eIPS panel in my LCD is definitely competitive.

That was a pixperan test for ghosting.. It was called readability..It in a nut shell is for the abilty to read character strings Horizontaly??

I think lol..

Well with the hp 24inch crt i got the max tempo 30 out of 30 right as you can see and the samsung P2770Fh 5 max tempo and anything beyound a 6 tempo unreadable??.

I don't know what this means but i know for sure that i can have my sensitivity upto 10 max,"really high", when gaming and still spot an enamy using the hp 24inch crt and make them out while spinning or turning fast...

Now on that samsung monitor i could not turn up my sensitivity past 7 while playing black ops on my xbox 360 game console without everything being a big blur..

Every now and again with the P2770Fh monitor i use to get "hah","what the f@$*" where was he when i turned that corner and not see that person who was right there infront of me that knifed me..

Or sometimes when shooting at my target first I see bullet hit makers and they seem to not even see me yet but i die only to watch the kill cam show i was second to shoot not first?

Well i'd have to say that does not happen anymore but now i just miss hitting my target becasue the game seems more responsive moves quicker responseds better???

Maybe just Maybe lol

I can actually get away from someone that is shooting at me from behind and while being near a corner inwhich i now make it around and survive. 😵
