I just realized if weed became legal, I'd probably smoke it.

No, not really into killing brain cells for a good time.

go do some research before posting

Linked an article already, read the thread. I would post more but I'm on a work computer so searching anything with the term marijuana in it is probably not a great idea.

And, well, that article had nothing to do with killing brain cells 😉
It did, however, discuss abnormalities in the myelin sheath that surrounds brain cells in adolescents who used marijuana heavily.
There's nothing in that article to indicate that occasional usage by a responsible adult will have any long-term effects on the brain. I'm just sayin' 😛

whatever buzz you had wasn't from weed, or was all in your head - take your pick.

probably the latter, along with contact highs.

Err... I voted no just because smoking anything is retarded. Your lungs were meant for oxygen, not smoke.

*psst* THC has been shown to be a neurotoxin in certain cases.

With that being said, there are potential uses for it as a neural protectorate (oh the irony) in certain disease states. Meaning that if you have an diseased brain then THC may be of a benefit, but if you are 'normal' it has shown that it does have a neurotoxicity effect.

If it's true, those brain cells were probably weak to begin with anyway. I'll gladly kill them off and grow some better and more resilient stoned cells. 😛

gonna have to say no. i don't drink or smoke now and those are both legal. i've known too many stoners to want to live my life that way.

I don't like smoking pot, mainly because I don't like ingesting any hot smoke into my lungs. Sure, it's not as harsh as tobacco, but it's uncomfortable, and fuck it, I don't want to.

That said, my buddies whipped up a few pounds of weed butter over the last week, and baked some incredibly potent cookies and brownies. I'm not one to indulge in pot all that frequently, but I figured, "why not?" 26 hours later when I sobered up, I found myself wondering why I don't do this more often...

So if weed were legal, I don't know that I'd smoke all that much, but I'd become a master baker overnight.

Holy crap, is it really that potent? Are there any ill effects from it, like an alchohol hangover?

That's why I drink beer - trying to kill off those weaker & slower brain cells.

I've seen how it can affect some people's drive and ambition. Having a family, I really don't think feeling high once in a while is worth the risk that I'd stop trying to provide the best life I can for my family and, instead, "chase the dragon" to use another drug term.

However, I do think it should be legal. Wastes law enforcement dollars, fills the prisons, and could be a nice source of tax revenue.

Recent article, admittedly focusing on developmental years, but it indicates something to me about general effects.

Small test group... but yeah i would agree with the results...

That being said, other enviromental factors aren't taken into account (the whole stoner/druggy culture isn't conducive to proper brain development imo). Also i don't think people under the age of ~18 should put any drug (alcohol, tobacco, prescription anti-depressents, weed...) into their system just because we have so little understanding about the development of the brain.

Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if weed caused some sort of brain damage but i doubt it would be even as much as alcohol, and we will only know definitevely(sp?) if scientists are legally allowed to study it independently.

In the end, any substance is bad for us if we don't practice moderation so... 😉

:wine: 🙂

There was an article on CNN 2 years ago that found a direct link between weed and an early on-set of psychotic behavior in those already predisposed to psychotic behavior.

Still, who cares? We have drugs that cure a headache but give you upset stomach, vomitting, and blood in the stool as a side affect.

I wonder if AreaCode707 ever takes any form of pharmaceutical?

It's not the drug, it's the person.

In many cases, without question. However, I'll bet there are some people who, had they never tried pot, would lead a bit better lives. My ex BIL, for example, was raised in a pot smoking home. Everyone down from his grandmother smoked daily. He ended up being so wispy that even when he had got laid off and had an opportunity to get a free 2 year college degree plus be paid unemployment the whole time (WIA) he was still too lazy to go sign up.

I often wonder what he would be like had he been raised in a different family.

Actually, smoking weed and drinking alcohol should, in theory, make you smarter. According to popular Darwinian theory, only the strong survive. Only the smart survive. If a lion goes after a herd of prey, the slow ones will die leaving only the stronger, faster ones to pass on their genes. Therefore, if beer and weed kill braincells, only the dumb ones will die off leaving you the smarter braincells left to reproduce.

Just to be a nit-picky dick for no other reason than I feel like being one, that really isn't an example of "Darwinian theory." What is called "fitness" is the ability to have the most survivable offspring as possible. Which may entail being faster, stronger, and smarter than the competition but not necessarily so.Therefore you can have a "weaker" individual but they may have 100s of viable offspring and the "stronger" one may have only one. So in terms of natural fitness the one that can have the most viable offspring is the most fit. Survival of the strongest doesn't really figure into the equation.

/dickness off

I like beer and am probably going to kill a few brain cells regardless of what Darwin may think.

Already said I do (in fact, I could not walk or use my hands without the biologic called Enbrel) and I would take marijuana in non-smoking form if prescribed to me by a doctor for a particular condition.
