sigh cats aren't as smart as dogs. Dogs I know of knows how dangerous is the road. More than human does.

What a coincidence, I killed a kitten this morning too...

Just trying to bring a little levity to the thread...

Nope, I hit a dog that ran out from in between two parked cars once also. I don't know how badly I wounded it because it ran off yelping. We couldn't find it and didn't stick around since there wasn't anything we could do at that point anyway.

i think you already went pretty far above and beyond norma citizenry by finishing it off and cleaning it up.

if it was a pet cat that they let out of the house (which I personally think it's cruel not to, contrary to what most people here seem to think) they would have had tags on it.

Could have been worse, like what happened to my father-in-law last winter. He started his truck in the morning only to find out a little too late that his neighbors little kitty had decided to keep warm by sleeping on the engine block the night before.

Kitty + Flex-Fan = Big Disgusting Mess!

You can't imagine the smell as the engine began to heat up and cook little kitty parts before he finally came back out to go to work. Now imagine explaining that one!

laugh it was a kitten. puppies don't know how dangerous the road is, nor do little children. or baby kangaroos.

sadness.
the kitten that i currently have (some may remember from the hideous rubber band incident a bit back) i actually almost hit as i pulled into my driveway one summer night. he was sitting in the middle of it...luckily it wasnt late enough that i would turn off the lights directly before pulling in and not see him.
obviously, its sad...but accidents do happen.

Shouldn't have swerved. Could've wound up hitting a parked car, tree, or anything else. Your life and health are more important than a cats. Sucks the cat had to die, but like others have said, it's not your fault.

I love cats, but I remember my driving school lessons.

"If an animal runs out in front of you, do NOT swerve to avoid it. Hit your brakes and try to stop, if you can't stop in time and hit the animal, too bad for it. It's not worth risking your life swerving your car around the road to avoid an animal."

NEVER, I repeat NEVER find the owner and identify yourself...

A dog once ran out in the road, and under my rear tire.
I stopped, and knocked on the door, just so happened to be the owner. Told her what happened, and a cop was behind me saw what happened stopped also.
Explained what happened, cop confirmed this, and I gave her my card appologizing.
She called me two days later wanting me to pay the vet bill, $1200 for life saving measures. I told her she has to be crazy, I feel bad, but that is as far as it goes.
She said she would not use my services since I was so cruel.

Hey, most of these wankers here wouldn't have done the right thing and finished it off. 80% of ATOT would jump up and down and point and whine about the squirming meowing mess and do absolutley nothing while it died a drawn out agonizing death; gurgling and clawing at the air futiliy trying to reach the safety of home.

You not only did the right thing in finishing it off but you did the decent thing in disposing of the remains so as not to disturb the sensitivities of any one else (especially kids).

No doubt the event will replay itself over and over in your mind, perhaps haunting you in your sleep. The glowing eyes, outstretched claws, the eerie voiceless scream coming from a mouth that cannot draw a breath.

Just imagine how bad it'd be if you hadn't done the right thing...

The way you described it with the bottom half ran over and the head just screaming just makes me cringe. Poor kitty. :(

I'd put up a few posters on a few trees by the area houses just as an FYI to whoever the owner may be.

I just got a kitty this weekend, and I'm sure I'd appreciate not only you coming to tell me, but that you were merciful and put it out of its misery. :(

Tell that to the moose. Thats usually a fight that ends in a draw.

That totally sucks. Backing over its head with the car doesn't seem like the best way to finish it off...but I don't have any other ideas besides stomping it to death so you probably did the right thing.

Your description of the events was rather disturbing though.

i don't even know who it belonged to...hopefully it wasn't some kid's kitten...i scraped it up with a stick and a cardboard box and threw it in someone's poly-cart and covered it with the box...at least the kid won't come out in the morning and find his/her kitten dead in the middle of the street :(

i don't have much of an appetite anymore.

holy fvck, thats terrible, poor kitten. i have 2 kittens i love them so much cats are the best... Pleas edont run over anymore :(
