i was coming back from love's after getting a couple sandwiches and an iced tea and a kitten ran out in front of me...i swerved to avoid it but it ran the wrong way and ended up underneath my wheel...i stopped and had to run over it's head to finish the poor thing off...i had smashed it's back half to the pavement and it was making all kinds of godawful noises :(

i don't even know who it belonged to...hopefully it wasn't some kid's kitten...i scraped it up with a stick and a cardboard box and threw it in someone's poly-cart and covered it with the box...at least the kid won't come out in the morning and find his/her kitten dead in the middle of the street :(

i don't have much of an appetite anymore.

It's ok, you were just an instrument of God carrying out his judgment upon some f4pper somewhere.

There's nothing worse than not knowing what happened to your pet. Do them the biggest favour in the world and tell them or a neighbour...

EDIT: imagine if it was your kitten, you'd spend the next few months putting up posters/hoping it would come home...

Imagining the head of a half-squashed kitten making horrible sounds as a big car tire gets nearer and nearer = ugh.

Pics?

Since you say kitten you "bound to find" that no one will claim it.

There are countless kittens euthanized daily because they have no homes to go to. It was most likely a stray feral kitten. You are wasting your time going door to door. If that kitten had a home with an owner that cared, it would have been inside. Responsible cat owners do not let their cats outside (exception: farms that need mousers and aren't near a busy street/highway). You owe the cat an apology, not the "owner." If never seeing the cat again doesn't teach them not to let their cats out, knowing its gruesome fate probably won't either.
That might sound cold, but I once worked at a kennel that held animals for local animal control, and if they'd found that kitten it would have been dead in a few days.
