/salute as someone that knows the shit we go through. I made it through 5 years as well - actually, over 4 years with my last one alone and 1.5 years with my previous. I can overall last, but I can't do that shit my entire life. Maybe if my wife was a stay at home - which is something I've statistically laughed at - anyone that is a Partner/Principal/Director has a 95% chance that if they are married they have a stay at home for their spouse. Not surprising.

Overall I won't lie, it is nice - I have plenty of recruiters fondling me just on the fact that a significant amount of Big 4 is on my resume. They love it - I find plenty of applications that list it as a "nice to have" - so it is undoubtedly a way better investment for me than even a masters degree would be.


I now hire them as my consultants and give them unreasonable deadlines

Not so much poor management. Anyone who has been in the Big 4 knows what it's about - as I'm sure @Dr. Detroit can emphasize further.... They have dedicated work - no doubt from a high reputation. But it overall comes from extracting as much work hours as possible out of folks - regardless of how useful the hours are.

No doubt though, Big 4 has higher turnover than a McDonalds. It is seriously that high - and it doesn't have so much to do with the management as to the overall culture.

I've heard about that! The only company that might be worse is Amazon, but at least at the Big 4 you can go to the bathroom...

Also mildly impressed that you aren't freaking out not having a paycheck or unemployment for 2 months (see the Govt Shutdown)

Eh I have no worries. Wife pay is more than enough to live on. House is paid off. Plenty of extra cash in the bank.

If both of us went without pay for 6 months I still wouldn't be real worried yet.
 
This is all very familiar. Reminds me of my sentiments in 2017, and why I decided to leave after almost 13 years.

That's good and pretty rare these days. I would highly recommend taking the job if offered in any case, because once you get to 3 months unemployed you will find that it will start to get a lot harder to get past HR and it only gets harder as the time elapses.

The stay-at-home dad card increases your character's ability to leave corporate America for up to 1 year. Beyond that, the card loses power.
 
Also, D-Day is coming. My final interview is in a couple days.

Will update with the final result. Hoping for good results based on the last 4 phone interviews. Kinda hard to fuck it up at this point - but I'm pretty good at doing that.
 
Had what was (hopefully) the last and final interview. From the rumors I've heard thus far I was the best out of 3 candidates... soo.... hopefully after they get the feedback and paperwork together that means an offer letter is sent to me shortly.

Update: Looks like I'm the finale winner. Offer to come Monday.


20% Bump in base pay.
Yearly decently fat bonus.
Much less travel
Paternity leave (which my last employer had as well)

Hopefully a shitload less stressful as well.
 
By the way - I FUCKING love Job recruiters. The more I've moved in life the more I love them.

This guy on LinkedIn
1) Found me and my skillsets
2) Verified that I quit my job with my last employer
3) Contacted me and let me know about a new job that fell in line with my skillsets
4) Guided me ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way through. He setup the interviews. He told them how awesome I was. He would tell me "Okay, this week you have an interview with XYZ. He's definitely a tech kind of guy so make sure to emphasize your skills to him there".

He would give me background information on everything. He would tell me to send thank you notes after the interviews. Basically guided me step by step on what to say to whom. Having him give me background of all situations definitely helps you more easily prepare for them. It's like a coach in your corner telling you exactly how to react, exactly what reactions to take, and telling me what my opponent wants to hear.

Which I totally understand. It's in the recruiter's best interests to make sure I get hired since he gets commission.
