I just performed a DIY scaling on my dog's teeth.

I don't understand why people are fanatical about cleaning their dog's mouth. Do you french them or something? I mean come on...

Dogs are strong animals. They don't need their teeth clean or to be pampered.

Dogs have longer life expectancy as domestic pets. They live 12-13 years+ on average, compared to wolves' 8-9 years.

Their teeth are vulnerable to same crap we have. Without proper care, they'll be in miserable pain or toothless when they're 7-9 years old, which is still damn young.

Their saliva is naturally high in acidity, which make them resistant to cavity. But that's not going to cut it for 12-13 years.

Gingivitis, bleeding gum, cavity, all that are just as dangerous for dogs.

[edit]
Brushing their teeth is not 'pampering' them. It's a medical necessity. Same goes for trimming their nails.

There was plaque buildup on Zion's front incisors. After some research, I learned you can perform DIY teeth scaling at home. So I got a pick and scraped them off like paint chips. Look at his pearly whites. Not today gum disease and gingivitis. Kudos to Zion for standing still like a champ.

damn your dog looks scared in that first pic. There is a reason pro's put them into sleepy sleepy time, just like people that do it going for simple procedures at a dentist.

He's very well socialized as a pup. He stood still fine. I would give him 5 second breaks every 10-15 seconds. Then I would praise him as he licked my hand.

He's such a cutie pie.

And who gets put under sleep for basic teeth cleaning?

Sorry to break it to you champ but you are pampering your dogs.

I have an Alaskan Malamute who is 15 and a Husky/Wolf who is 12.

My dogs do not receive any special treatment and are in the best shape of their lives. They have just as much energy as they were when they were puppies.

When dogs are pampered they become reliant on that person to survive.

Basically you are shortening the life span of your dog and treating him/her like a baby.

Dogs are very capable you just don't realize this.

How does your outlier experience disprove any of my facts that's widely understood as canine care standard?

Are you one of those people that say 'smoking doesn't give you cancer, my grandpa smoked all his life and lived to 105?'

How does proper caring 'shorten' the life span of the dog? Any facts to back up all your statements?

dude, you are trolling us. Please post pics with ATOT on something in the pic.

Dogs learned to become reliant on people. It's sort of the smartest move they ever made.

I want to see him answer my questions. I didn't know I was shortening my dog's life expectancy by brushing his teeth. God I'm a fucking idiot, and every responsible owners in the world.

The facts are out there you just can't see them.

A person only becomes a smoker when the cigarette touches their lips.

A dog is a dog. Only if it is pampered by it's owner, does it go from a dog to a baby.

FUCK YES! I have a party tomorrow that will last all night and into Sunday...no dog park for my Hanzo.

So I am staying in...even though being asked to head out to parties.

Tommorow night I play, tommorow day Hanzo plays.

He is full alpha too, like me. Doesn't have to hump every dog, but when one tries him; he shows what's up.

I'd never try to scale his teeth while he was awake though. The fronts would be easy, the back teeth were a lot of mess builds up, not so easy.

How often are you supposed to brush your dog's teeth anyway?

Ideally3x-4x a week. Best once a day.

I got lazy and haven't brushed his for almost 9 months now as dental chews and textured toys go a long way. I'm getting back into habit.

Is that party just bingo at the senior's center?

My vet had told me I would need to brush my cat's teeth if I was to switch her to wet food. Considering even she had trouble opening my cat's mouth just to look at her teeth I realized this would be impossible, so I kept her on dry.

But this makes me wonder, why is it that domestic pets are so sensitive to this stuff compared to wild animals?

I'd say you picked a piss poor vet that says this. Dry food <> teeth cleaning.
