I just performed a DIY scaling on my dog's teeth.

There was plaque buildup on Zion's front incisors. After some research, I learned you can perform DIY teeth scaling at home. So I got a pick and scraped them off like paint chips. Look at his pearly whites. Not today gum disease and gingivitis. Kudos to Zion for standing still like a champ.

Your dog must trust you more than mine does ... he'd never stand still for long enough :) Well done though!

Told by the vet to frequently touch his teeth & paws early as a pup, so he's used to it by the time he's older. One of the best advice I got.

If he understood what was happening... and maybe he did seeing the chips come off and feeling the difference with his tongue, then why not stand still? Not unlike during brushing. Heck, other animals rely upon different species to groom them and clean their teeth as well.

LOL, my vet always uses her fingernail for this.

Yup, I tried my nails too but just wasn't strong enough and was irritating his gums more.

The metal pick owned the hell out of those plaque.

Tastes like shower cottage cheese.

It's solidified plaque, so it's actually quite hard- it's just like paint chips but much stronger.

A big chip fell off, so I tried to crush it with my fingers. It took some effort.

Meh I guess it happens to all of us on an internet forum- someone trolling.

Nah man, you did me a favor, there's now a new addition to my ever-growing ignore list.
