Dangit, now that I looked this thing up, I wanted one too. Did the 209 - 15% off coupon thing for HSN for new customers, so not too bad I guess. Looking forward to sweet potato fries! They never get crispy enough in the oven and I refuse to deep fry things.

Hmm is this really worth it over a 20-50$ toaster/convection oven. I just foil the tray put some oil and spread the fries to give it a nice coating. 25 min at 400F and it's ready. Clean up is a cinch by just throwing away the foil.

Got mine today, and immediately made some "fried" skinless boneless chicken breasts and sweet potato fries...oh so yummy. I cooked the chicken and fries separately at 350 degrees, 20 mins each. Think I'm going to get my moneys worth out of this thing :)

So what's the difference between this and my Nuwave that I paid about $120 for 3 or 4 years ago and is still going strong?

Pics or you didn't eat it :awe:

This seriously looks cool. I've seen the American versions and they have pretty iffy reviews, but this machine actually looks legit. And while I am a big fan of Alton Brown, I do disagree with him on the unitasker appliance theory - I prefer having tools that do what they do well (I have a hardboiled egg cooking appliance, which sounds ridiculous, but it makes perfect hardboiled eggs EVERY TIME, which is what I want). So especially for me where I have food allergies and rarely get to eat out at restaurants, this would be really cool to have if I want something fried. A lot of places cook their fries in corn oil, and unfortunately I'm allergic to corn, so even being able to get stupid french fries when I want them is a pain

The price stinks, but if it actually works well...I burned through three blenders before I finally invested in a Blendtec. At $400 I thought it was insane, but I've had it for years now without a single hiccup. It has literally been my most reliable kitchen appliance! I just used it last night to liquefy (yes, liquefy) a can of black beans for a black bean brownie recipe, no food processor required! Then just squeeze in some dishsoap, blend for 10 seconds in water, and rinse to clean out. Boom, done. So yeah, I think good appliances are worth the money if they actually work as advertised.

Just ordered this... Impulse buy, thanks guys
I am a sucker for kitchen gadgets.

$178 from HSN with %15 off for being a new customer.
I had thought about getting the T-Fal ActiFry before, but it always seemed to have mixed reviews.

This unit seems to get much better reviews (plenty of great reviews on Amazon UK, where it is on sale for $99 )

I still want to know what makes this better than a Nuwave. Not trying to be a smartass, I'm really curious.

Maybe when my Nuwave does croak I'll upgrade if it's worth it.

Looks like the same concept, just different design.

Is this different or somehow better than the Tfal Active Fry?

I've eyeballed this thing but been somewhat skeptical....

I'm wondering if this is just a really powerful mini convection oven. If so, a heat gun and a gimbal may be just as good.

I was looking at that one too, but the user reviews I've read had quite a few stating that the rotating paddles stopped working or were problematic.

Apparently these things have been all the rage in Europe for about 2 years now, but they're just coming out in the US. Basically they circulate air and a small amount of oil or fat that dripped off the meat you're cooking. You can fry most things with no oil or max 1tbsp. I'd never heard of this until recently, but the reviews are mostly all in love with it. 512 reviews with 4.5/5 average. If the Chicken wings are as good as the people on Amazon UK's site are claiming this is going to be the best investment ever. I'm not sure if Europe knows shit about wings so I'm not holding my breath though. Apparently it makes smashing fish & chips.

I live in Europe, yes I am aware of them but I do not know a single person who has one. So calling them "all the rage" is a bit over the top.

My only real concern is how much you can cook at a time. I'm not sure these are able to cook fast enough and in enough volume to supply a large family/family dinner.

I was thinking this myself, you would have thought they would have scaled them up to wheelbarrow size for the American market.

So I've been using the airfryer for a few weeks now. That thing rocks! Frozen fries turn out great, frozen sweet potato fries turn out great (always stayed a bit mushy in the oven), any kind of frozen breaded chicken turns out fabulous, wings turn out pretty good (though the Ronco rotisserie still makes the best, however it's a totally PITA to use that monstrosity, so this wins for ease of use). Homefries from sweet potatoes turned out awesome. Made home-made french fries the other night in it - but cooked them too long and they turned into potato chip sticks instead pretty much. Which gave me the idea to try making potato chips in it next.

A few recipes in the booklet that came with it failed miserably - specifically the zucchini fries - anything too wet has a tendency to just glop together at the bottom of the basket.

Overall very happy with the purchase!

The Airfryer has been working great! It makes great frozen fries (of course) and also frozen Halibut from Costco came out great for fish and chips. Frozen egg rolls were excellent as well.

The only thing that has given me a problem have been frozen pot-stickers, they were too dry. I tried to use the Airfryer to steam them, but it didn't work too well.

Anyway it has been excellent overall.

I would like to see a shootout of all of these air fryers, there's just so many on the market. Just going off Amazon US pricing:

Phillips Airfryer - $329
Living Basix JetFry Oil Free Fryer - $149
T-fal ActiFry - $187
Secura Infrared Convection Countertop TurboFry Oven - $149
BIG BOSS 1300-Watt Oil-Less Fryer - $92
NuWave Oven - $130

They all look like mini turbo broilers, priced between $92 and $329 with very different types of reviews. I'm wondering if this would really replace a nice $49 deep fryer for occasional kitchen use as well.

I have the Ronco rotisserie (set it and forget it), and that thing is awesome, especially for roasting a chicken, and some types of roast. However, it's not the Ronco brand. It's branded by Crofton - the brand that Aldis grocery stores carry. And, it wasn't the Ronco $200 price. It was around $30, iirc.

So, this air fryer - I doubt it costs more than $10 or $20 to manufacture - I'll be hopeful that Crofton immitates it & sells it in their grocery stores for a fraction of the price. (fwiw, a lot of the non-food stuff they sell at Aldis is awesome. I still remember when their Medion computer was a hot deal - it sold for hundreds of dollars less than what you could part it out for.)

Lol, I bought a Medion notebook there on Black Friday 2007. It actually still works, though the battery has long stopped holding a charge - but still works when you plug it in. My wife uses it for remote-desktoping into her work.

For Pot-Stickers, I boil/steam them first. Then I brush them with some olive oil and throw them in the Airfryer for another 5-10 mins just, enough to start browning them.
