OP really should consider some kind of medication. I take medication that keeps my blood sugar high, and the result is that I never experience blood sugar crashes and I'm less likely to binge eat (although binging has never been a problem before). Yesterday I didn't eat anything at all until ~5pm because I just wasn't hungry; blood sugar was up and I felt great.

The OP should consider seeing a doctor and following their advice for his specific situation. People on the board can recommend some very general things but anything more than moderate changes in diet or activity really needs to be discussed with a doctor, especially any medication.

You should stop giving that kind of advice. Yes, the OP should go to the doctors and probably have some blood tests performed to see if there are any medical conditions that might be part of the weight issue but telling him to take some medication.

Not eating til 5pm is stupid and should be indicator to you that something is not right. You shouldn't give advice on cars and most everything.

I weighed in the mid-high 200’s before and got down to 170 for a short period. 180 was my new norm. I am at 190 now and need to get back down to 180.

What I can say based on my personal experience is you don’t have to give up ALL your favorite foods, but you will need to give up a lot of them and trim others down.
I switched from regular soda to water and diet soda. Start with Diet Dr Pepper and Coke Zero. Those are easy to start with and after 1-2 months you will prefer them over regular soda. Regular soda now gives me a headache and many taste bad.
I cut out all cookies and cakes. I tried to give up ice cream but that was my one vice I could not. But I limit myself and also I don’t use a bowl I only use a mug and 1-2small scoop method now as well.
NO fast food. The only time I ever eat Fast food now is when I am on trips and my options are very limited. Even then its water and 1 regular sandwich. I use to go wild on the 2 burgers for… and get fries with it. That was really bad.
Also what helps me is to buy the pre bagged chips and premade meals. I eat that and stop. If I cook something I cook way too much and portion control becomes an issue. But the stoffers type meals are setup so you know what you will get that that’s it. I cook still but I am also married with child so my son eats with me and I have had to go back and eat a half P-B and J sandwich he eats so much now.

But the thing that works the best is YOU. Do YOU really want to lose weight? Saying things like “I don’t want to give up xyz foods…” sounds like you are not vested yet. Once you really decide to lose weight then take the steps I and others gave and find what works for you. Save pictures of yourself now. I have my first college ID and I never want to see that in the mirror again.

Ever had your thyroid checked? I know being Hypo or Hyper active will really cause you to blow up weight wise I found out mine was Hypo and not changing my diet at all I dropped 45 pounds (not that I eat bad but I have a thing for sweet tea).

but they're easy :( I could cook a pot of pasta on Sunday and it'd last half the week.

transitioning to eating primarily meat/fish, it was a big switch to have to start cooking a meal almost every single night (instead of just throwing left-over pasta or rice or mac and cheese into the microwave)

Just make a bunch of drumsticks, grill some salmon (those electric stove top grills). Steak is also pretty easy to cook - not cheap though. Toss a bag of premade salad into some chicken paddy or tuna.

Take out can be decent - KFC grilled chicken is good and mostly healthy. Frozen meats, meals, dumplings etc can be very easy and fairly healthy.

My job recently ended (office work at desk / computer) and between that and some light gym exercise, I went down about 3-5 lbs to 194 (5' 8" small - medium frame, male) .. not ideal, but a lot better than it was 2 months back.

Cut out the McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's .. all very fattening
Cut out the Soda .. it keeps you bloated
Cut back on the Cakes and Cookies
Cut back on between meal snacks, like Pringles
Cut back on the Liquor and Beers
Eat more Fruits
Exercise wether it be walking, treadmill, Orbitron (elliptical), biking

You must get your heart rate up each day to increase your metabolism. That will help you stay awake, lower your blood pressure, and help fight any depression so that you can change your lifestyle and overall outlook towards food and life in general.

Good luck with that. Took what seemed like a million blood tests to confirm that I have a blood sugar problem. I wonder if doctors pull that shit when people have diabetes or cancer. "Well I think you have a brain tumor, but we're going to scan you 20 more times just to make sure. You have insurance, right?"
With the amount of time it takes to get that done, the OP will be dead before a doctor says there might be some kind of problem that makes him think he's hungry all the time even though he's eating nonstop. (that's what reactive hypoglycemia and diabetes both feel like).

Don't hate just because my body is super efficient like that of a crocodile. You mammals and your inferior warm blood are the gas guzzlers of nature.

Dude, what scale do you have? Most of the ones I've seen top out at 300 or less.

Also, losing weight sucks, but it's doable. I limit myself to between 3000 and 4000 average daily calories and have lost about 2 inches off my waist, don't know exactly how many pounds I've lost, but I'd estimate about 15 or so.. I'm pretty sure I'm down into the 290s, but meh...

EDIT: My only real "sacrifice" was that I stopped drinking all pop/sweetened drinks outside of beer or occasional mixed drinks/juice

if he eats 4000 calories/day in steak or 4000 calories/day in white rice, I'd guess his weight loss/gain would be equal.

Nope, simple carbs are higher in calories than proteins, and the body burns them first, proteins last.

Anyway, you want to get into a controlled state of ketosis for rapid weight loss, and a high protein/low carb diet will do that.

You do realize that even if carbs have more calories than proteins, it still doesn't matter if you're eating 4000 calories of carbs vs 4000 calories of protein. They're the exact same amount of calories and your body views them the same.

You don't need to do anything like that in order to lose weight. Physics alone with allow you to lose that weight. Calculate your base metabolic rate using a variety of calculators available on the internet. Undercut that by 500 or so calories and you WILL lose weight. You don't have to deny yourself anything if you keep track of what you take in vs what you expend.

Combine that with something that happens to resemble physical exercise and you will lose a ton of weight really fast when you weigh over 275 or so pounds

Seriously... a gram of protein and a gram of carbs has the same amount of calories. This isn't hard information to find, and yet with such a lack of knowledge you're giving other people advice. Eating less than what you burn is what works.

lol: hook, line and sinker.

:D

I kind of assumed that when I saw the poster. BM and serious don't go together from what I've seen, but it's still something to talk about, and someone might get something of value from the discussion.

oh man i live on mt dew, 4-5 cans gets me through the day

maybe ill cut back to 2 and see if i ca n still stay awake...

Those Mt Dews aren't keeping you awake. They have barely any caffeine (like 1/5 - 1/4 the amount as coffee), and the sugar rush wears off quickly.

Look at how much sugar is in Mountain Dew.

Even if you add sugar to your coffee, it's much, much less than that. Maybe one or two sugar cubes' worth instead of nearly 20. And a cup of coffee has about the same amount of caffeine as a 20oz bottle of Dew.

I like to think of calories as money, and when you're eating, you're really just budgeting calories. Want ice cream? Fine, but you're "spending" several hundred calories that could be used to make you eat something that'll fill your hunger.

Sweetened drinks are probably the worst because they don't make you feel any fuller than water does, but they add hundreds of calories.

Whenever you are thinking of eating or drinking something, think - for the calories I'm taking in, what else could I have instead?

To the people being assholes about this,

Eat healthy, live healthy, DIE ANYWAY. Live your life the way you want. Let other people live life the way they want. "Being fat is disgusting!" So is farting, eating your boogers, and your dad screwing your mom. It's too bad we didn't prevent the latter from happening when you were conceived, then we wouldn't have to listen to you bitch about seeing fat people.

agree with this. see a doctor, tell him you want to lose some weight and get a general check up. this is supposed to be done before any wholesale change to your activity level and diet. He can probably recommend a nutritionist to help with meal selection. additionally keep in mind that losing weight for some is just as hard if not harder than gaining weight for others.

As someone who was once fat. I'll say being fat isn't just disgusting. It's downright unpleasant to do day to day tasks. Being a normal weight allows one to live their lives much more easily. I know the turning point for me was when I couldn't sit in a chair and tie my shoes comfortably because my stomach would get in the way of bending over.
