You can seriously petition for your job back. An exec tried to get my mother (a fellow exec) fired from her job under the claim that she didn't do jack. Its a good thing she kept daily records of everything she does 😛 She wrote a formal report, sent it to the big boss and she got her spot back. 🙂

He wants to be a Store Team Leader and has to prove himself by taking his job to a new level. i.e. scoping out anybody doing anything wrong and putting their balls on the block. He's not exactly furthering his career directly, but he's trying to seem like he doesn't care who you are; if you make a mistake, you're gone.

I don't really get why the even bothered to fire me since they're short on help as it is and people will NOT like to hear the reason that I was fired. We really need an e/n thread image....

You've learned an important lesson here though, working hard and being a good employee gets you nowhere. Ass kissing, blame shifting and fit having are the American way. Hard work died out some time in the 1800s.

Whole Foods Market in Palatine, IL. The store is actually pretty good. Most of all the employees are very friendly and helpful. Most of the managers are also quite friendly and everything. It was just this single person who decided to take it upon himself to dick me over.

The company is actually decent overall but I just don't need to be treated like that. Thanks for all the advice / support.

Typical food service company. My brother was fired from a restaurant chain for breaking a stupid rule. He was the manager of the restaurant and he wrote a letter of recomendation for another employee to apply for another job. Apparently it was against the companies policy for employees to write letters of req, so they fired him. Sometimes people in high position just feel like they need to flex their muscle, probably the lack of braincells and the fact they didnt' work hard for their posistion anyway.

Trader Joes is as heartless as Whole foods is made out to be. I worked there (my ass off, the hardest I ever did and all I ever got was grief) for about 5 months, when they wanted me to work 4-12 on school days 2 times a week (plus working saturday/sunday) I said eff it.

I know very little about unemployement laws, but you might be eligible. Even though they fired you with cause, it sounds like this is the first time you've been reprimanded so it wasn't really justified. On the other hand, you only work during the summers, so you might not be eligible.

I wish she did but she was planning on leaving soon anyway. When she heard that guy was scheming to get her fired, she went thru employment laws, then company rules and policy, pulled out all of her papers proving the jerk wrong, wrote a paper, got it proofread several times by a top notch English major friend of hers and turned her appeal in in style. When she told me about the whole mess and how she worked out of it, I was uber-proud of her.

Woa Nelly. Don't feel bad, I repeat don't feel bad. The very unforunate lesson here is an important one.
Corporations do NOT value loyalty or anything from Employees anymore and haven't for years. It's only getting worse.

Do not attempt to clear your name or anything, just put that place in the past where it belongs.
Keep your chin up and FEEL like they did YOU a favor because you know what? They did do you a foavor by giving you the opportunity to find a much better Employer.

You've accomplish by posting here a Internet Community that understands and I'm sure the feedback helps (of course ignore the few Trolls and don't know any better yet kiddies that post).

You're only 20 and have the whole world ahead of you as an Oyster, Relish it.

You will find a way to make up that $1,000 and then some.

Theres the problem! whenever a bosses wife works in his place of business they always seem to assume his authority by proxy. It wasn't The HR guy that fired you It was the wife. He had no choice once she framed it to him in her own quasi accurate way. That is one of the reasons many places do not permit spouses or close family of their managers to be employed in the same locations. To much bedroom backstabbing. Is she a supervisor? If not I bet she is moving into your job right now or a friend of hers is. Man I worked for for 12 years decided all of a sudden it would be a good idea to to have his wife work in his business. What a disaster. By the time I thanked him for letting me work for him for 12 years and told her to jump off a cliff that bitch was trying to make her useless snotnosed 17 year old my supervisor. I told my boss there was no way I was letting that slug move past me on the management ladder and that if he couldn't control his wife then I was leaving. He said he was sorry but family comes first. I said fine and handed him my resignation. He had to close his business 18 months later. Bitch and her brat bankrupted him.


If you really want to unnerve the weasel go into him and demand to examine your entire employee file and also make a copy of everything in it especially evaluations. He cannot deny you. Federal law guarantees your right to examine your employment records at any time. If he asks why tell him your attorney wants copies of everything in there to examine. Then grin evilly. If he know anything about HR he should know that attracting wrongful discharge lawsuits for something so insignificant does not particularly make you look good when considered for promotions.

OK I worked retail as a manager in my time and EVERYONE knows the Employee has to be there to get the discount. Unless its a small little company know one cares about. YOU knew the rule you got busted. You worked there for 4 years and this NEVER came up? Riiight.

I don't think you should have been fired though over that small infraction.

You must have pissed someone off in upper management and they found a reason to can you.

You probably think it's dumb on SO many levels... and you would be RIGHT!

Retail has a tendency to be like that... if someone nasty gets above or goes before you... you're pretty much waiting to find the next job. Doesn't matter how good or hard working you are... like people have said, it's no reflection upon you as a worker.

It really is up to you if you want to burn your bridges or not. If the company treated you well in general except for "Ahole #1" I personally wouldn't so I could get references and stuff from that job. Otherwise, I say "burn m'fskR BURN!!"

I remember one of my instructors telling me screwed over a stealership that refused to pay him his full pay. They assigned him a simple job would have been easily solved by some fresh spark plugs but instead, he decided to tear apart the entire motor and trans and proceed to throw all the parts in a big cardboard box... His friend that left after him decided to one up that and since he was a trans specialist, he took 3 different and very complicated transmissions and fully disassembled ALL the pieces... you name it, it was taken apart. He then threw pieces of those 3 completely different transmissions and threw them into a big box. Wheeee!!

Employer Polices have to printed and available to employees. They also should be in a "Employee Handbook" that was given to you at time of employment. If you were unaware of the policy and it isn't published in a manual available to employees they may be in violation of the labor laws.

The action they took seems to be extreme, particularily if you had no prior warnings. I think I would contact the State Labor Board and possibly a lawyer.
