Gotta say, this thread is making me skittish about hiking, wilderness, etc., which I love as much as the next person, but dang... ticks? Mosquitos are bad enough but ticks! RMSF, lyme, etc. Pulling the buggers out with tweezers, inspecting, using a match. I mean lyme, the symptoms are things that I think about just in day to day living. I feel tired and weak sometimes, I suppose most everyone does. Don't want to have to be wondering if I have lyme (which I've wondered at times over the last 10-15 years).

Then you need to stay in the house. Paranoia is an amazing thing.

i am still alive and no symptoms yet, aside from itchiness on my arm and some headaches (which i usually have all the time but these are on the other side of my head)

i think i'm done hiking though... just gonna stick to the road and paved paths. no more walks in the woods and grasslands for me.

Don't get under any trees as they can and will drop down on you too from the trees.

😱

seriously, i am getting more apprehensive about doing stuff every year

pretty much done with traveling after COVID

now this has soured me on the whole outdoors thing

i fully expect to never go outside by the time i am 50, if i even live that long

you can always count on an Iron Woode Poam

TBH, I've never not done any outdoors activity because I was afraid of ticks or anything else except for covid-19. Now that I'm fully mRNA vaccinated, I'm not afraid of that either. I would say I'm anything but paranoid.

Well the post below that you made it sounds like you are.

Well, I'm just reading the thread. I was talking about past behavior, which has never been paranoid. Anyway, what's your problem with me? If you want, I can engage in a flame war and come up with things to call YOU! Is that what you're trying to do here, provoke a flame war??? Your motivation is suspect to say the least. Are you trying to get on my ignore list? There's room, you know...

Flame war? Dude you need to relax. I didn't "call" you anything. I only pointed out that you seem paranoid about ticks and such. Sorry you have really thin skin.

Why is my motivation suspect?

I really do not care about your dreaded ignore list. I actually think it is a funny threat. Please don't put me on your Ignore List...

Last time I had a tick I was doing mushrooms and rolling around on the ground in the woods with friends while laughing my ass off. Woke up in the morning with one buried in my neck😱

whoaaa

did you have a skin hurt for days? the tick didn't even get stuck in my skin, but where it bits me is still swelled a little and the whole forearm feels like it has a skin hurt now.

GF yanked it out and I was fine. I don't wtf a skin hurt is, sounds like something a 3 year old would say. Maybe the Lyme disease is giving you brain damage? 😱

I had always heard the tick had to buried in you a while for you to get infected with anything serious. Some people just react poorly to tick bites though. My co-worker swelled up from a bite and needed anti-biotics and it only got him for a few minutes. My skin doesn't really react to bug bites that badly. I'd say if it's still swollen and hurts after a few days I'd go to the doctor and see if you need anti-biotics.

seriously you've never had a skin hurt? like it just hurts to touch the skin against anything. sort of like an itch/burn. i gotta keep that forearm off my desk now, otherwise it drives me crazy.

Sounds like the tick just gave you the covid-19 vaccine. 😛

Seriously though I'd go get checked out at this point. That bite was maybe actually enough to get lyme and maybe that's the start of the reaction.

I'd probably be more worried about Cellulitis which is pretty common but needs to be treated with anti-biotics as it can lead to serious infection.
