if you get cancer in the states, do they not see that as life threatening and do chemo and all that for free? (canadian here)

Sadly no, here in the states middle class and lower class with no income are expected to just die when it comes to these sort of things. No help at all from anyone, hospitals will refuse to do any treatment on them. Sad really.

that is bullcrap and your commie butt knows it
piss off troll

It isn't bull crap, if you are poor you don't get free cancer treatment. You are expected to just die off.

While I agree with you somewhat regarding health care in this country, it isn't as hard as you'd think to get the help you need. There are organizations out there to help people in need out.

Edit: FoBoT, freedom of speech, kthx.

FIRE FIRE FIRE

Freedom of speech :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

Well he's so quick to call the one guy names and scream BAN for him having an opinion that obviously is not shared by FoBoT...

Or are opinions bannable offenses now?

UCDAggies has been posting communist flamebaiting troll bullshvt for the past week. Ban him for being a troll, not because he's a low IQ commie who goes to UC Davis because he couldn't get into the other UCs.

Sad to hear about this. My older sister (51), just found out that she has early stages of breast cancer. She noticed a very miniscule lump then decided to go to her doctor. Was adviced that it's none life treatening if caught at a early stage. At this point she's in a shock stage, why her. Next step is find a place and have the needed treatment/operation. Not sure how it will be paid for or if her insurance covers it.

Good luck to your friend.

But if anyone wants to get an abortion for any reason, that's bad and the parents should be beat.

It's a backwards country, where one life (a fetus) is apparently more precious than another (a person).

Slow down there. I went to that school too. Lets all be friends because everyone knows UCR is the one for the rejects.

So far he seems to be the typical hippie college student that was just exposed to an over liberal environment and is tagging along, like that south park episode when stan kyle and kenny met the know it all college hippies and they threw that music festival.

Easy solution..
1.Give up citizenship
2.Fly to Mexico
3.Sneak across the border and get all the privileges you desire including healtcare

Move her to Canada.

This is probably her best option. Try to get out of the U.S and into a country with decent medical care.

Ehhh Canada can only afford to give free health care to their citizens because there aren't even close to the number of people there compared to here (US).

If the US switched to Canada's policy, it'd be out of control.

Anyways, doesn't Canada require that you be a citizen for this free health care? (The chemo is still probably cheaper there)

Loan? (Family members/friends can help her pay it back?) -> Only if you can get cheaper chemo in Canada or a different country (I am a US citizen - Just trying to say that elsewhere is probably cheaper)

Our leaders are a compassionate bunch of bastards, and since they have health insurance, they don't give a damn about someone that can't afford it. No insurance and cancer in the US is a death sentence. Ain't this a great frigging country?

How old is she? and does she even want to pursue treatment? I know that I've decided at age 50 that I would chose to refuse all treatment except pain relief should I be told I had breast ca.

1) get medicated

2) figure out hte bills later.

I think you can file for help with hospotals. I hate to say it, but one of the blond bimbos on The Real World (big hoots and dumb as a rock and adopted about 2 seasons ago) had hugemedical problems and bills. I think $8K in bills. She filed paper work and her bills were eliminated.

<== embarassed to know this.

No thanks, we don't want her.

We have enough trouble taking care of our own.

The other issue is that the disparity between rich and poor is much less here in Canada, namely that if push came to shove more 'lower middle class' could afford to pay their way through.

Where as in the states.. no chance at all.

So how many people die waiting in line to be treated in Canada?

That has nothing to do with universal health care and everything to do with poorly run hospitals.

People have the right to live a healthy life and everyone in the country has the responsibility to care for those who are ill.

The idea of private health care makes me sick.

To the OP, sorry for going off topic. I hope you can find some way to help your friend.

Hence our two tiered health care system.

And the answer to your question:

Not nearly as many people as those who die because they couldn't get medical care in the States.

The double edged answer to that is, could this person afford to go into labour in the states?

If so, go to a private clinic/hospital to get service.

If you don't like the service go to one of the other opportunities in our community, there is no shortage of them.

Are you serious? You'd give up the possibility of 30+ years of life because you got cancer at age 50?

Geekbabe has demonstrated as of late that she doesn't make alot of sense sometimes.

Oh well.

Not true actually.

My father received extremely good care on public aid.
Of course he happened to die just when the unavoidable bills (like equipment rental) started to come in. But he was always lucky that way.
In fact he would have been extremely pleased to find out he just got in under the wieght limit for the standard price cremation, as opposed to the jumbo price one.
