I just can't get into RPG's

I like the ignorance of hte SRPG, which Disciples II would count among.
I once played a bit of Disciples II. I recall it being psimilar to HoMM3, which I was playing at the time.

Strategy and RPG are hardly mutually exclusive genres.
Exactly.

Sure, if you expand the rules we go by to encompass whatever you want, then yeah, you can use whatever theories or justifications you feel like.
I don't want to justify anything. What I actually want is to get my point across, so we can... you know... argue.

Of course when the other side doesn't want to get what I'm trying to say, it's impossible to have an argument.

Wait a second. How are dice rolls not part of the HoMM series? For example, with few exceptions, creature damage is variable.

RPG's are my preferred genre when it comes to games. However they do require a decent time investment and if you put it down for too long you run the risk of forgetting where you are...what you were doing...and where to go next, on top of parts of the story. Then you're forced to start over. I can't remember what old school rpg had a guy you could go to at any time and he'd give you a hint as to what you should be doing. Came in handy from time to time.

Excuse my lack of gaming culture. There's no reason why and RPG would work with HoMM combat system.
I think you meant to say "wouldn't". In that case then you should check a game currently in development by Paradox called Runemaster. That is an RPG with HoMM combat system, as opposed to considering HoMM an RPG. Don't get me wrong, I totally love Heroes of Might & Magic (and its cousin King's Bounty), but the focus is on strategy/tactics, while Runemaster, even though it'll use similar mechanics, is more focused in the RPG aspects. I'm totally looking forward to that one.

I'm in the same boat. I prefer the shorter, more story driven RPGs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. I just don't have the time to play games that require more than 15-20 hours of gameplay.

how do you beat either of those games in 15 hours?

min run for me in either would be about 35 hours. typical run is more like 60 hours.

skipping all everything and only doing main quest type stuff can get ME1 to sub 20 hours.

I was grinding out achievements. Beat that game like 7 times.

Playing that way defeats the purpose of a story driven game, though. To get through the story of ME1 with the bigger side quests, minimum 40 hours I would imagine. At least that's about how long my first playthrough was.

I can get into RPGs so long as grind isn't required. I never really got into Diablo II precisely due to tedious hack-and-slash making up 75% of the game.

Likewise I shouldn't have to do serious math to develop an effective character. Arithmetic and statistics is not something one does for fun.

I am the same. When I find I have to repeat things again and again, I can't do it and I actually think about that same repetitive action before I play that game again lol
