Slow cookers are awesome and you can pretty much throw anything in there and not *&^% it up. We like using the lipton soup mixes with beef. We don't do a lot of chicken, but usually if we do it's just chicken broth and some veggies.

My wife uses Hers to make Lasagna , meat loaf , Pulled pork , baked beans , stew , soup , sweetish meatballs , various chicken meals. It really keeps the heat down in the kitchen during the summer.

Jesus can i stay in your house for a bit:p

I use mine pretty much weekly to make my lunch for the week. I put like 4lbs of chicken breasts in mine with a big tub of salsa and cook for 6 hours on low. Then I shred the chicken and mix like 2 big ass cups of the salsa with it. Once it cools down I mix it with spring onions, some mayo, and salt.

Then I'll make these chicken and cheese "burritos" which are just tortillas that I fold over into like a taco shape, that I microwave for 90 seconds to warm em up at work. I eat 2 a day for lunch, usually like 2-3 hours apart. Everyone at my job is always asking me what it is because it smells really good. It also tastes good and is cheap and pretty healthy.

Im so trying this next week, thanks for the recipe!

I typically use this salsa.

And I use the whole thing so the chicken is completely covered by it while cooking.

All great ideas (well, except for yours, John Conner, coming in to spoil my positive thread :( ), thanks.

LOL

the gas can be a little too much for me. I like them for the fiber as well as taste.

You can cut down in gas by eating them frequently (body adjusts a bit over time) as well as adding certain spices like ginger or turmeric (which admittedly you can't add to all bean dishes, but they'll complement many, anyway, and there are others), which aid in digestion and help reduce gas and bloating.

Also many other health benefits to herbs and spices in general (anti-inflammatory, reducing cancer risk, risk of diseases, reducing blood pressure for those with hypertension, etc)... plus they taste good. We typically don't use enough or enough variety in the Western world, except in haute cuisine.

I will be making a beef roast in my crockpot Saturday. I got me 4 pound eye of round roast, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion and some seasonings.

this will make amazing gravy, too.

:)

Uh, you just quoted the recipe. Did you even read my post?

I did, but cmon man, I gotta RTFM, I don't go by "Add a pot of this, and a dash of that"...

How many ounces? How many "tubs" of salsa? Got a recommendation for the salsa (they have everything from chunky and thick to near pure liquidy). How much mayo?

I usually try and get the biggest chicken breast package they have, usually like 4-4.5 pounds. And I linked a picture the tub of salsa up above. I don't know the size of it in units, but it's a big one.

Just put as much mayo to taste. I'm not a big fan of mayo in general so I don't like it really runny/watery after it's done. I put like 3 scoops or so.

Here's the beef stew recipe I mentioned:

https://www.melskitchencafe.com/hearty-beef-stew-slow-cooker/

Here's one for mac and cheese. It's pretty unhealthy; you can almost feel it sticking to your insides, but it makes a great side dish.

-1lb medium shell pasta
-16oz Velveeta, sliced
-8oz shredded cheddar cheese
-1 stick of butter
-4 cups of milk

Put everything into a crock pot and cook for two hours, stirring occasionally. Start on high and turn to low if it's cooking too quickly.

My personal beef stew recipe:

2 - 3 lbs of stewing beef
3 stalks of celery cut into 1 inch pieces
10 crimini mushrooms sliced thick
5 potatoes (yukon gold) chopped into bite sized chunks
1 small bag of baby carrots
1 medium onion chopped thick
1/2 large bag of frozen mixed veggies (green beans, peas, corn, diced carrot and lima beans)

1 pack of Club House beef stew seasoning mix for Slow Cookers (has a great balance of flavour and I am a cheapskate)

My crock pot is a 6qt model so I fill the pot with water to just cover the veggies. I set it to low for 8 - 9 hrs. I then thicken it using cornstarch.

My place smells like heaven when I make stew. Plus it tastes amazing especially on a cold winter day.

Replace the water with beef stock and add half a cup of red wine for a little acid and it will be even better. Yum. Nothing better than beef stew on a cold day.

for personal reasons, I never use or consume wine.

I find the flavour of my recipe perfect with just enough beef flavour from the meat. I could add a bullion cube if I wanted to.

The alcohol boils off

Well then use a shot or two of rum instead of the wine.

The alcohol isn't important. That beef stew recipe is all rich ingredients and nothing to balance. The wine would add some acid which would make things a lot better. If you don't like/want wine for whatever reason the trick is not to replace it with some other booze, it's to add in something else with a little acidic bite. Lemon juice, some cider vinegar or tomatoes would help a hell of a lot more than rum.

I actually found some stew recipes with rum. I may try one out.

We don't use it often but we also use it to make chili. It's supposed to be bit chilly tomorrow morning so I'm making breakfast chili with some leftover smoked brisket from the freezer. I just plugged in the slow cooker so the brisket chili should be waiting for me when I wake up in the morning.

I would use the rum or some sort of dark beer as a flavoring agent. Just enough to bast the roast.

I would try it but I live in an HUD funded apartment that doesn't allow booze in the apartments.
