So this morning I get an urgent email from my sister asking me to fax my latest pay stubs to my bank.
Then later that afternoon, I am sitting at work and I get a phone call from Morocco. It was my mom congratulating me on buying an apartment that I have yet to see.
This summer when she came to visit me I signed a bunch of paper work (I didn't really read it), but I know it was for a mortgage thru my bank. They had this program for people like me, who work outside the country. I got a fixed interest at 5.08% for 25 years.

But yeah the phone hang up before I get to ask how much it was. I was really excited and speechless and simply forgot to ask. I know the ball park, but don;t know what the final sale price was.

I will post pictures as soon as I get them too.

Man even tho I am excited, it is scaring me that I am in that much debt right now and will I ever be debt free again...lol... I f8cking hope so someday.
My mom and sister will be living in it and paying a decent portion of the mortgage, this was really my parents idea as my first investment. I hope they are right like they've always said.

Edit_1: The apart is in downtown Casablanca BTW.

Update: I just called over there.
The sale price was 1,500,000 MAD which is 194,299.26 USD + 3K to sign + this special insurance of 5K. The fees for the elevator and lobby maintenace and all is ~ 24 USD/ month + city tax of ~$140/ year(not completely sure what this is really, its just what I was told).
My payments are going to be just under 1200 USD.
I will have some pictures later in the day tomorrow.
Some how the mortgage is only 25 years.

Update_2:

The location is not too far from the beach. I can take a taxi for $1.5 and I am at the beach, and taxi's very available in that boulevard.
A few friends has told me that the location will only increase, I mean it in the heart of Casablanca in one of the most safest areas. There are two tennis clubs withing 500ft, actually the club I played at when I was a kid.

Building entrance. ... With 24/7 concierge.

I believe this is part of the lobby area.

Entrance_2

The apart entrance. I like number 10 tho...but it is kind of a cheesy door. I am not sure I like the wood color.

The kitchen I like the hight ceiling.

Bathroom#1

Bathroom#2

Balcony This is the only pic I have of it. My sister is "nule" at taking pictures.

Bedroom1

Living area I like the marble flooring. I forgot we don't carpet over there.

Closet in the master bdr I think.

Update_3:

I just got a fax from the bank asking for medical Check. They are asking me to get an HIV test ? I was not expecting that.
I assume I just call my doctor and ask him to test me for some HIV and the rest.
Or is there is a special place to do this test ?

So someone (your family) bought an apartment you've never seen with your money.

Uhhh, congrats?

So YOU are now reponsible for the mortgage on a place you've never seen and aren't going to live in?

I suppose some people have family ties strong enough to do that without concern, but I sure don't...

This part

My plan is to get some exaggerated receipts from some furniture store and get the money back to pay off my student loans here that are at 8-9%. Plus I gain about 20% when I exchange the currency. I hope this works.

sure sounds like you're engaging in outright fraud. That doesn't sit well with me, and I hope it both fails to work as planned, AND that you get caught and charged for fraud.

That is what I came in here to say, too.

And what is with the furniture fraud?

Can I give you some papers to sign that you won't read. Don't worry about them. Oh, and e-mail me scans of your pay stub, drivers license and SS card. And can you digitize your signature for me, too?

you should have gotten a 1 room apartment and have your parents sleep on the floor beside the bed you are sleeping on. Ain't that how you folks do it?

It's a great idea tho. I don't think it's going to work because I can't just bring money into the country like that. The only way to do it is wire transfer it to my school account and get a refund . I am sure the bank is smarter than that tho.

You go and try to find a house downtown Casablanca. Most people live in apartments downtown, to get a house you need to get away from downtown for something reasonable.

Maybe in other countries you can.

I think you can buy apartments in NY.

maybe it's like a condo?

No it is on 5th floor of a building on a boulevard, with a one car parking space in a shared subbasement garage.
