Forgive my assumption.

And no doubt that particular restaurant you mentioned was indeed overpriced. Any dining experience that leaves that sort of impression on one of its patrons is overpriced and overrated, if only for that single individual.

I have yet to eat a steak anywhere, at any price, that is better than the ones I grill at home. Not that they aren't good, but not better than the ones I make.
Yet I still eat out occasionally, and I realize that I'm paying for the atmosphere and service, not necessarily because the extra money is going to mean the food is better.

Ruth's Chris doesn't cost that much... I mean, it's still expensive, but not to $65 level. Last time I was there I remember steaks were priced from 30-35, which is to my surprised, and this was in palm desert.

anyway, I like Houston's rib eye. $40 a person plus drink, appetizer, and tip. I am happy.

will try Mastros in Beverly Hill.

Aged steak? Is that the kind that they let sit and rot, then cut away the rotten outer layers exposing the "fresh" and tender inner meat?

I have never paid for a steak that costs more than $30.

Which is why my date and I often have to do the restaurant's dishes for the rest of the evening.

Steak is supposed to taste like meat.

On Last Thursday I ate 2 T-bones tha I cooked on my grill. They were on sale at the grocery store for only $4.99 per pound, so the whole package of steaks was only like $13 or so (20oz steaks, and tax). They were very tasty. I generally recommend eating only one steak, however, This was after a period of about 30 hours or so between meals, so I was a bit hungry and felt that 40oz of steak would hit the spot. I was not full so I also ate a pound of king crab legs as the grocery store had them on sale for $9 per pound. I also had 2 litres of Mountain Dew Code red as that was on sale for $99 cents.

Overall, I ate enough food to feed a family in a third world family for a year. And the total cost to me was about $25. Though I did have to wash the dishes, which sucks.

you can get a good quality 1.5in think cut of New York Strip for about $9-10 from the butcher then add baked potato and some good bread and you got any steakhouse beat.

I can think of at least 4 restaurants in DFW that are much better.

They have better steaks? If so..I wouldn't be able to imagine such a steak.

I don't live in the metroplex and already know 1 place. (Saltgrass is wayyyyy better)

Texas Land and Cattle (Richardson) is on par with Cattlemen's.
So is Ryan's in Garland.

There are so many better places to eat steak in the City.

Next time, ask them to take you to Sparks and get the sirloin. That is the best steak I've had including Lugers.

Here in Chattanooga, there's a GREAT place that has twin filets served on a bed of mashed potatoes with crispy fried onion straws on top for $28. It's an AMAZING meal. Of course, by the time you add an appitizer, wine, desert, salad, you're dealing with about $70-80 per person for the meal, but it's definitely worth it. ;)

Ruth's Chris was good the first time I went there. I haven't liked it as much since then.

I still think Stoney River makes the best steak in Atlanta.

I have to agree with this. Ruth's Chris is Ala Carte as well. At Stoney River, $25 gets you the filet with sides. If you get the filet, you *have* to get the japanese horseradish on it. (If they still do it, this was 4+ years ago)

*EDIT*
Another thought here, for ~ $65 you can get ALL the meat you can eat at Fogo de Chao in Buckhead.

If it's made of meat, they most likley serve it :D

I agree with you 100%. The only Filet's that I've really liked have been ones where something was added to give it flavor...like brie sauce or something. Give me a good, juicy ribeye.

It's much cheaper at lunch (under 40 maybe?), but you might want to take the rest of the day to sit on the couch and digest. :)
