if you liked diablo, definitely recommend Guild Wars, i consider that diablo3 more or less.

If you're into FPS< then of course CounterStrike Source for online play
Half life2 is an excellent game-Single player experience is a blast, be sure to finish it up, and then get Episode One
Prey is a nice change of pace too, thats pretty fun as well- HIGHLY recommend this game
If you like car stuff, Need for Speed Most Wanted is pretty fun, but you need a controller for sure
Oblivion is a good single player RPG but I think this new one Dark Messiah: Might and Magic (demo available now, game out in Oct) will give Oblivion a run for its money
Another game, its a bit older now, but its still the latest in the series, Unreal Tournament 2004 is a really fun online FPS if you like future weapons
And of course there is battlefield 2, but its fairly buggy, but a really great amount of gameplay if you have the patience, you would need to upgrade your rig though so it looks descent. This is probably the last game i would recommend me though

Ok hope thats enough to get you started, i pretty much have played everything or at least tried it, so if you want to ask me anything, shoot over a PM
or if you want resources for game reviews etc- i know you have been out of the loop for a while

Half Life 2. Awesome game, I'm still impressed by the physics and gameplay every time I work through it. There's so many things you can play around with and have fun along the way. No online gameplay option.

Far Cry. It's cheap anymore and lots of gameplay time. Difficulty levels are great for changing up the game as you get better at it. Just know that the last level IS impossible at higher difficulty settings. Has an online multiplayer option but it's weak and not many players on it last time I checked.

Oblivion will make your video card cry, however it is a great single player game. You'll need a 1800XT or so to make it run well at the most common resolutions. It is addictive. You might want to stay away from it if you're susceptible to that.

Command and Conquer Generals + Zero Hour expansion. It's a older RTS game. I love it but for some reason it wasn't extremely popular. It would run great on your system. Has an online multiplayer option but the people who play it are cheaters and are way too good at it. I can whip through the single player game on the hardest level easily but online I'm crushed witin 1-2 minutes.

Battlefield 2 - No fun at all in single player, but it's a blast online if you can find a good server (see site in my sig for 3 good servers). However, there are weapons unlocks that you have to play 500+ hours to complete. You might get sucked into that. You'll need a better vid card for that to run at decent quality.

I found it quite playable on a 6600GT...

But have you played on something better? You wouldn't believe what you're missing.

Yeah, 1997 or 1998.

OP, I'd try Civilization 4, Silent Hunter 3 (Submarine game), Falcon 4, all of those are great games that can be played either single player or multiplayer.

Battlefield 2 is a great game, but the single player component is almost non-existant.
