seems like you should be ok as long as you dont go max settings, and maybe drop the resolution a little too.

I have a CRAPPY video card and im running oblivion on 640*480, with most of the details set to medium. It sucks every time i think about what im missing. But every time i get in the game, i forget about all that, and it gets really enjoyable.

While old, if you haven't played classics like Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate I and II, and Fallout I and II, it's a good way to get hours of fun from cheap games.

Oh, and Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay rocked. One of the rare cases where the video game was good and the movie was bad. It's short, but definetly worth playing. One of my favorites.

I am much like you. I haven't played video game for years.

last month, I built a shuttle xpc for gaming. I played far cry and emergency 4. check out far cry, it is a great single FPS game. that's how I like it.

I'm no counter strike freak...but it's cheap...doesn't require a badass system..and updates itself. Not to mention pretty fun.

If you were hopelessly addicted to Diablo 2, play WoW. Yes, you pay monthly (12-15 bucks), but it will save you money as you won't buy games every month. It is 1000000x the size of Diablo 2...and has many similarities.

He asked for single player games. Besides, Blizzard sucks anyways. They haven't made an awesome game since Blackthorne and haven't made a decent game since Diablo II.

My bad, missed that part. I guess I scrolled down and saw CS:S mentioned (multiplayer only game) so I thought WoW would work.

Have you played WoW? You're missing out, man. It's Diablo II on crack, speed, and a little bit of just plain old sugar.

So much so that at one time after the v1.10 patch i was number 3,5,and 10 on the hardcore ladder.
I used to run Mep runs NO maphack and i kept a LOGBOOK of what it dropped .

I ran it 15k times....

so due to that i cant play online multiplayer games. I just cant. Its like crack to me.

Single player games i can walk away from and not play 18 hours at a time.

soooooooo what do you all recomend......

my hardware is as follows
3800x2
7600 gs (plan to overclock a bit)(just bought that one for 58$ off newegg)
1 gig of ram
tons of harddrive space

thanks much all
love to hear the recomendations

Jon

For all recovering Diablo II Addicts... I recommend runescape.
It can be addicting, its free, and if you get annoyed you can walk away from it without problem. But if you find you like it (you can join up for $5 per month and triple your world, items and quests). Hey, its a java web game... you can play it anywhere.

I still regularly play Day of Defeat (non-source version). Better graphics now... but its about 5 years old. Very easy to get into... play for 15-30 minutes and be done. Itts like crack to me.

I would second Far Cry as well. I enjoyed it more than half-life 2.

I am almost finished Half-life 2 for the first time and it is absolutely amazing, you should try it. Plus you get CS:S (and other stuff) for free if you buy one of the Valve package deals.

This has been said before by multiple people, Far Cry.

Also, this has multiplayer, but the single player is very good as well, Civ3 and/or Civ4.

play anything but wow, or you will be playing that for 3-4 years!

but on a serious note, id recommend far cry, half life 2, battlefield middle earth, and... prey.
