it's not the camera silly...it's the photographer! maybe i'm a dying breed...but i still use film. slides or negs are scanned in with a konica minolta scan elite II 5400 dpi film scanner. other than that, the only thing digital about my camera's is the underlying electronics. camera used is a circa 1995 design pentax pz-1p 35mm slr. flash used is a circa 1995 design pentax ftz 500. lens used is a tokina ATX 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8. film used is kodak portra vivid color iso 400. left it on on program mode AE with shift to aperture priority (pentax pz-1p and some other pentax slr's have the wonderfully odd hyper-program AE which allows shift to aperture or shutter priority AE with a couple flicks of a dial) to control the depth of field. both pix were taken with the flash bounced 75 degrees with a plain white flash card held by a rubber band on the flash head--low tech but it works. i've used this silly old pentax to make money from freelance work for asianweek in san francisco (when they had a bigger budget), my old university paper at berkeley (back in '99 we still developed b&w in the darkroom on the 6th floor of eschelman), and small wedding gigs. there's no doubt digital is quite flexible and cheap compared to buying film and developing film. and dare i say the quality of pro digital slr's are going to surpass film (at least compared to 35mm; medium format someday in the not too distant future, large format--maybe never). however, worry about the equipment later and just go out and shoot pics.
