Skip the moto droid and wait for one without the physical keyboard. I never use the keyboard but it makes it heavier and thicker. I blew returning mine by 1 day... total fuck up. I might sell it though.
I hate virtual keyboards. They type about as well as my ass.
I like my phone to have an actual keyboard. Makes typing sooo much faster, easier, and possible to do without visual aid.
George Lucas gets a cut every time that commercial is played on television.
Then you obviously haven't used a moto droid keyboard because it's useless without staring at it as there is no tactile way to tell which keys you are pressing. It's also tiny and laid out without offsets between the keys/rows. I find it useless.

Is the OP posting from his droid?

I have used the Moto Droid's keyboard extensively since I bought it the day of its release back in November. At first, it was difficult to type on compared to my Env2, but after a few days, you adapt. I can type just as fast on the Droid's keyboard just as fast as I could on my Env2. The keys are mostly flat, but there is a slight bezel to them to differentiate them plus the keys makes a slight tactile 'click' when pressed.
The Droid's keyboard takes a lot of heat by people who've only used it for less than a day, not enough time to know anything about the device.
Negative. I use "better Keyboard" and type just as fast on that as I do a physical keyboard. Granted, I only type 70 some WPM.
Also, WRONG FORUM. These issues and this phone have been beat to death in the RIGHT FORUM.
It's the same thing with the Pre's keyboard. Everyone gives it shit about being small but most have only "played" with it and not actually worked with it. After a few days I could type on it as fast as I could with my BB Tour, actually a bit better since I made less mistakes which I contribute to the chiclet style keys. I have had a Hero for around a month now and I still can't type worth a damn on it. For me I just can't adapt to software keyboards.
