I got my moto Droid for christmas, I really like it. I have surprisingly had no glitches at all, it has never been turned off since I activated it, hasn't froze up on me once which I think is really impressive.

The physical keyboard takes getting used to but it's part of what I liked about it, I hate not having the option of hard keys. Much better for typing on the move. the ONLY thing is I wish I could get a miniot wood case for one :p

2004 HP iPaq6315 pda/web phone $541 http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1390297&highlight=6315

2007 Unlocked HTC ATT 8525 $435

2010 ??? $???

I want Windows Mobile for sure, as its all Ive ever used. The 6315 had a separate keyboard but I always used the touchscreen since these items were mostly for daytrading at work and all I needed was news and real time stock quotes. The web and posting on AT was just for fun. I think Ill stick with HTC, since I prefer the affordable and reliable Tmobile service Ive had for 10 years.

Wait for the Nexus people.
It will rule teh world.

Yeah, with that awesome email support, dual ETF's, 3G/Edge problem, working only on TMobile so far, and a shitty upgrade path...

Yeah... WTF, did Larry or Serge loose a bet with someone and have to sell a phone?

20K sold in the first week, versus 50,000 iPhones sold on the first day by Vodaphone in the UK, the 4th carrier in the UK to pick up the iPhone...

The buzz around the Nexus One has been a glaring example of how truly stupid the internet buzz can become...

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I will be participating in a paid focus group on the 20th in Irving, Texas to guide design and function features in the next great touchscreen phone.

I was hoping to gleen as much as possible here to appear up to date and informed.

Then you obviously haven't used a moto droid keyboard because it's useless without staring at it as there is no tactile way to tell which keys you are pressing. It's also tiny and laid out without offsets between the keys/rows. I find it useless.

Sorry to hear about your mental retardation. ;)

Seriously though, the keyboard on my old Blackberry Curve was easier to get the hang of, but most of my complaints about the Droid keyboard were gone after a week or so of adjustment.

Overall, I consider the Droid to be a huge upgrade over my old Curve.

You might like the HTC HD then. It's a pretty smooth phone (after 6 minutes of warm-up) and there is no shortage of applications to run on WinMobile.

Right now, I have the iPhone and HTC Hero, and I like the Hero, than the Droid, or even Nexus One, because the Sense UI is pretty slick. Also, the phone speeds up incredibly after a certain time of usage. I don't even use my iPhone at all anymore, the interface just seems too simple and OLD now. I don't get why people are still so attracted to it.

I've had a Droid since December, and prefer it over the BB Pearl it replaced, along with the iPhone 3G that the Pearl had replaced. Part of the reason is that the Verizon's 3G coverage in the Bay Area is considerably better than AT&T's, and part is because I like the way the phone works. I have several coworkers and friends with iPhones, and they have to use wifi in order to even try to compete with the speed of Verizon's 3G (in terms of loading webpages, etc.)

I would prefer that the phone didn't have a physical keyboard, but to me that's a relatively minor thing. My experience has been that the phone and the service has been rock solid. No dropped calls, no lost texts, no spotty internet.

I've found sometimes a reboot will help things smooth out. Sometimes I guess it just needs to start over. I've had a couple glitches as in emails not showing up, etc. Sometimes the scrolling will stutter a bit. For some reason a reboot will fix it all up.

I've mostly gotten use to the keyboard. I find gliding my fingers over the keys is a pretty efficient way of making it work, as you don't need as much pressure as you might think. I guess the one good thing is that it's fairly sensitive to the presses you make.

I had one... for a week. I went back to the Droid. For a phone like this, network quality is huge. T-Mo has 3G in my area (finally) but it didn't compare to Verizon's overall coverage.

As for the phone itself, it's faster than the Droid yeah but Google really dropped the ball on some of the phone's basic features IMO. I don't even think I'm going to pick it up when it hits VZW. I'm not sure because it really didn't blow me away. I fell for the (modest) hype I guess. :(

Luckily for me, I was able to sell my N1 for more than I paid for it.

Very informative! Thanks for your input. You might be able to get a nice price for you iPhone before it gets too out of date on either Ebay or Craigslist in the meantime.

I've had my Droid for 1 week now and I LOVE it. It's by far the best phone I've owned. Before this I had the HTC Touch Pro and it obviously blows that out of the water. During that entire week I have not had to reboot even one time for any problems. It's been solid. Also, I haven't noticed any call quality issue at all? I asked my wife and mom if they've had any problems hearing me or the call quality sounding poor, both of them said no that it sounds good. I do not have any problems hearing people either.

My wife got a free HTC Droid Eris out of the deal and she's been using it for a week. Well yesterday we took it back and went ahead and exchanged it for a Motorola Droid. The HTC Voice dialer flat out didn't work. I tried maybe 20 times getting it to dial my number and it would bring up a list of totally random numbers, or sometimes it would bring up the wrong names...I could not get it to work a single time. My wife couldn't either. She also had issues with it dialing a number in mid dial for no reason. She played with the Droid all day yesterday and last night and shes seems to be much happier. She was coming from a Palm phone on Sprint, so she likes having the keyboard to use.

I have no problems with the keyboard. Once you use it for a few days you get used to it and can start typing fast. I don't use a lot of different cell phones, but I like having it when I need to type out some work emails. I just work better with physical buttons vs. virtual. I do use the virtual a lot for quick text messages or inputting user name/passwords, but it's great to have the option to use buttons when needed.

there's serious flaw with droid: your mouth has to be next to microphone if you want anybody to hear you. my gf complains everyday.

Here is your fix to the call quality issue that some people seem to have.

##7764726 (##PROGRAM)
CALL Button
Enter SPC Password - 000000
VERIFY
04 Vocode
Select EVRC-B

This fixes the sound quality issue (assuming your problem isn't related to something else).

This actually takes you to the PROGRAM menu and you will be able to switch back and forth between 13k, EVRC and EVRC-B. So you aren't making a chance to your phone that you can't reverse. The phone will reboot after you make the change.

I'm not having any issues with call quality, but I went ahead and made that change just for the hell of it. Mine was indeed set to EVRC - the older tech.

Yep, I did this a while back and it did make a noticeable difference. Though, I can't understand why the Droid would ship with the ability to use the newer technology but not have it enabled by default.

Another thing to try is updating your phones PRL. Dial *228 and hit option two, then wait for it to finish. I've already had two updates since mid November, and I always have great service.

One thing I did read was that not all towers use this tech yet and that could lead to people not being able to make calls if this isn't supported? Not sure if that is true or not, as no one has posted about not being able to make calls after the change..but it's what a user posted.

Never heard that, but I suppose it could happen. Either way, switching to EVRC-B on my Droid has made a noticeable improvement in voice quality.

Yeah, I have no clue if it's true or not, but that is what some people on DroidForums said. Either way, I'm glad it worked for you and hopfully the info will help other people on here who haven't seen it!

I've had the Droid since launch and it took me about two full weeks to get used to the physical keyboard, aside from that, it is the best gadget I've ever used. I'm running the Sholes.Info rom with multi-touch, Voice keyboard (from nexus), 2.1 music app, 2.1 gallery app, 2.1 launcher (homescreen) rooted.
