Nonsense. Have her call her insurance company first thing in the morning. Her car is insured through that company - they pay. Then they can try to get their money back from the dorks that damaged the car. Her insurance company knows a whole lot more about how to get them to pay than you do, so let the pros do the job she paid them to do.

Read the thread. His g/f's insurance is liability only. They arent going to pay her jack.

Not necessarily true. The insurance company is going to avoid paying out on a claim if they can. When I was run off the road by another driver (he never actually hit me), my insurance company was riding hard on his company. They weren't going to foot the bill if there was any way they could get someone else to.

And it worked...

Are you serious? I didn't know that sort of insurance existed. She pays money to insure her car. Her car is damaged, therefore her insurance pays to repair her car. But I'm guessing that "liability only" means that her insurance only pays for the damge she does to somebody else's car? So, if she fell asleep at the wheel, changed lanes and collided with another car, her insurance would only pay for the damge to the othercar and she'd be SOL about her repair bills?

I'd be getting some additional insurance if that were the case.

EDIT: And come to think of it, I'm sure the lending company would have serious issues with this sort of insurance. I'm not sure I buy this "Liability only" idea, unless she had the car paid off.

It is the sort of insurance you buy when you're broke. Generally not for the insurance aspect of it, but because the state makes you.

Your insurance company had a reason to get someone else to pay. If they didnt, it would cost them. Her insurance company does not have the same motivation. Maybe if it were a "name brand" insurance company she might get some help, but chances are if you are buying liability only insurance, you are going with the cheapest provider possible.

I guess I should have mentioned that I had liability insurance only, but I hit a telephone pole, so they did have a financial stake.
Sorry for the confusion :)

LOL.... I was about to say the same thing.

And yes, that is exactly how it works. It is liability only.

And yes, you are right. You can 't get liability only on a new car when you have a loan on it.
