Good idea with a long-term bedbug infestation ... might want to burn the clothes on your back once you leave!

;)
Strip, swim through an at least 40 foot pool of chlorinated water, put on fresh new clothes on the other side and keep walking in same direction. Good luck.

Do what I suggested with the PC ... use heat on the electrical parts and a hose on the metal. *(FULL-SIZE oven only a toaster-oven is NOT ok!)

If concerned about moving bugs double-bag the system and take it apart outside prior to doing the above at the new place.

What you need to BURN (!!) is ALL your thick/heavy bedding and any clothing or blankets that will potentially resist heat in a dryer. (Note that dry-cleaning will also kill effectively)

However if bugs can hide from the heat it doesn't kill them which is why the thick stuff with heavy stitched seams is your biggest concern!

I don't mean to bum you out but the LAST thing you want is to bring those m/f'er's with you to the new place... and if EVEN ONE female makes the trip.....

It actually would be better to leave anything you can't make 100% BB free behind and start fresh. (as-is ANY itch for the next 6 months will make you crazy!)

I think 55C or so will kill bed bugs, might actually be safe to just put the whole PC in the oven. You'll want to use a temp gun to check temp then turn it off so you don't have the element on and baking directly on the PC.

When covid was new and I was being extra cautious/paranoid I was doing that to my parcels. Just leave it in there for a good half hour as it cools off naturally.

I was leaving mine for at least a week, maybe 10 days, often more before opening. I had stacks of mail and packages, each with a note on it designating the day of receipt! :)

so 55 celcius in the oven? my lord tunderin gezus

90 minutes to 2 hours @ approx 55c should kill all hatched bedbugs AND their eggs too. I would suggest breaking down the PC to component-level prior to heating it. (if you leave assembled it will take a lot longer to reach "killing" temps inside)

Also be sure not to set too hot! ;)

i'm a little worried about doing this method to be honest. I can't afford a new computer. What you guys think about putting my tower in a plastic bag sealed air-tight for a couple weeks?

I think that is safe and what I was going to recommend

The issue with bedbugs is that a couple of weeks won't kill them. Seal it in a bag, put it in a car and park in the sun. Here, SC, it will get to 130 in no time. Or in an attic.

55c = approx 125f and is not hot enough to damage your components however as mentioned it will get rid of bedbugs.

Problem is the little bastards are extremely tough and difficult to kill.... they have been demonstrated to survive well below freezing temps for weeks at a time, are resistant to most pesticides and can hide in TINY cracks/crevices.

As for the bag idea, yes eventually the adult bugs will suffocate (think 6 months minimum not weeks) BUT the eggs they lay will survive just fine.

You could test it with something else that is cheap. Like if you have a radio or something.

Oh, and when it comes time to do it with the PC do remove the CMOS battery to be safe. I just thought of that now.

Plastic parts like GPU shroud and fans SHOULD be ok but I would test that too with something cheap first.

What about getting an insect killing jar and putting it inside the PC with the lid off, then sealing the whole thing in a bag for a day or two?

thats probably what i'm gonna do :( If you don't see me again for the next year or so..something melted :(

If concerned about the accuracy of the oven thermostat snag a $5 thermometer at Home Depot or Walmart and monitor temps.
