Now I am saying go for the ban. Heck I will even sign up for it. Just make sure you have all of your facts crystal clear when you send those emails off to Newegg and MSI. Otherwise you are just doing as much of a disservice as he has done do this forum. What good is that?

All that we're doing is emailing Newegg and MSI these exact threads. He wrote every single post himself and there's no taking it back now or denying that it was him that wrote the stuff. We're not fabricating anything; we're just making a conclusion based on what he posted himself.

Understood.

Actually it's done all the time on these forums, as it should be. People shouldn't be returning hardware that they modified and destroyed. As members of the hardware community we respect that and it irritates us to see people stealing from the companies we purchase our products from. If everyone did that the prices of components would be astronomical.

That gratton won't be me :) Next time include the first name in the search. I am pretty easy to find all in all:

No worries, Mr. Matt's parents will be talked with in the AM. That was already in my plans.

This kid talks to me on AIM all the time... quite annoying about 99% of the time. Not sure why I always unblock him after a little while. Perhaps he is just entertaining. Anyways I highily doubt he did much to kill the card other than OC with software a little bit which either way is suppose to viod the warrenty. I would guess most of the things he posted were way more than he ever did. HE likes to run his mouth and talk big while his real actions are certainly not... I would agree to ban him in an instant lol and will go to forum issues when I'm done with this. I thin a break would do him good. Maybe he can just watch for a bit...

One of the funny things this kid said he was going to do was mount a SLK900a onto his new 9800 pro with only thermal compound... This was after he saw my modded 9500 Pro which only has an aluminum cooler as anything heavier wouldn't be to safe IMO and is bolted on there not just thermal adhesive !!!. He has quite the little mind..

I am certain if I search this forum I will find that you have posted some question or replied to as to how to perform some type of mod. Does that make you unethical. Come on now.

And I am not his uncle. I am merely a relative, and not even a blood one at that. You have flamed him, you have written to the mods several times from what I can see. You've done your duty. Going to MSI and Newegg was going beyond and uncalled for when you do not actually know for sure what was done. Do you do that for everyone that you come across who has watercooled or added ramsinks to their cards?!? Unlikely, and it should not have been done in this instance either.

I can understand you feeling sorry for this guy, being his relative and him being 13. Kids do stupid things, and teenagers have been known to be mouthy.
To be honest, I didn't know he was a kid when I sent my emails to MSI and newegg.

Go ahead and search what I've posted about mods and OCing. You'll see I've always said I don't care if a person OCs a component, as long as they realize they're risking the part and accept responsibility for it.

I was banned over on Firing Squad over a year ago for saying the same thing. The mods there have signatures like "Knight Of the Supreme OCing Skillz".

As far as mynewrigissick goes, I have not written the mods about him. I wrote the people he was trying to steal from about him.

I doubt his dad even knows what is going on here, but have you ever heard the saying,"It takes a village to raise a child"? I think mynewrigissick just found out the village doesn't approve of his behavior and hopefully will learn from this.

Or maybe he'll just stay petulant and tell me to "hump a tree" again?

Agreed with all of this.

I had him convinced on two things: 1) don't begin modding anything unless you have a stable initial card. 2) good lord! Put a Speeze falconrock on it at most! I mean man!

I have regreted it since, but i have an awful habit of when pop-ups come up of just click on them to make them go away.

You left out:
3) OCing is fine, but If you bork your gear by running it out of spec accept the consequences for your own actions.

As far as not being respectful to this forum, he has been given a second chance already... Apparently, he didn't learn anything.

No I didnt leave that one out. I just know he has not done any mods so there is no question in my mind. I have said to him several times that if he mods he void warrantee and I will not support him doing a return in that case.

heheh, I personally am not looking forward to his dad seeing that one. *sigh*

And for the record, This is a community I am happy to be a part of and happy to contribute to. I do hope Matt learns a lesson from this.

An overclock via software is a "mod". To OC a nVidia card, you must do the coolbits registry mod. When you do this and select "manual overclocking" in the nVidia control panel, you get a pop-up that states:

...WARNING: THE SOFTWARE UTILITY YOU ARE ABOUT TO ENABLE ("UTILITY") MAY CAUSE SYSTEM DAMAGE AND VOID WARRANTIES. THIS UTILITY RUNS YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM OUT OF THE MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN....

you can read the rest of it yourself if you have a nVidia card...

Looks like your buddy has been doing a bit of warrantee voiding/returning afterall...

its funny how my 5900XT runs FarCry on high and most high end video cards cant even get theres to play good on high, my card is an AOpen 5900XT i overclocked it to 417/800MHz runs very fast.

He did not use coolbits. I am not going to argue if OC'ing is a mod. Suffice to say his own mouth certainly has gotten him into trouble. Lets leave it at that.

BTW: if you read the NVidia disclaimer the language seems to imply that if you use this utility and it causes damage then that will void the warrantee. It does not say "using this utility will void the warrantee".

As far as I know the FX5900 card was not damaged in any way when it was returned. It merely didn't perform as well as he wanted. We will see on the MSI card as I am sure they have an inbox full of warnings. They can do what they may, my $0.02 was that the card was hot right out of the box.

Is returning a card just because it doesn't perform as well as you wanted any better than trying to return it because you OC'd it and
it didn't work? Geez, the kid should have done his research before he bought so he would be happy with the product. Caveat Emptor.

how do u get coolbits can u send me a link

You might actually want to help this guy out...

from PCstats

AOpen's GeForceFX 5900XT packs in 128MB of DDR RAM, supports dual monitors, has TV-Out capabilities and comes with a bundled copy of PowerDVD 5. Factor in the $239 CDN ($175 US) price tag (which is one of the lowest priced FX 5900XT's we've seen), and pretty much everything else can be forgiven if the card does seem a little vanilla. Oh, did I happen to mention that AOpen boosted the default core clock speed from 390 MHz to 420 MHz too? In the long run I think end users will appreciate that little speed boost much more than any software package!

It appears that your friend was actually running that card slower than spec.

ROFL!!!!

Rollo, and everybody else who has done something to make things change here - Thanks for helping out.

Mynewrigissick - I think you need some help.

magratton - Please keep us posted with what happens.

As for mynewrigissick, I'm not sure that anybody here would want somebody like this to be a member on the forums here. I know I'm not the oldest member around, but seriously, is this the type of people who are welcomed around here?

By the way,

I don't know whether you've learned grammar, but verbs in the english language need to have subject verb agreement. The proper form of this sentence is:

rolllo and sick beast why dont go home to your mommys and stick both of ur heads up their asses!

or

rolllo and sick beast why dont go home to your mommy and stick both of ur heads up her ass!

Just wanted to help you out. We do speak english in this country and I am sure you want to fit in.

Uh.... I don't particularly like this guy either, but, um, don't your sentences sound a bit odd? :p They aren't exactly "proper" How about adding a "you" after don't so we'd have:

rolllo and sick beast why you dont go home to your mommys and stick both of ur heads up their asses!

Which is grammatically correct, albeit has spelling errors.

:p
