I haven't seen it strapped into a chair turned upside-down and nailed to the ceiling of the theater.

I haven't seen Dark Knight either.... I so rarely go to the movies. I'll netflix it.

Also, I've never seen Titanic.

You're not missing much, Anubis. The movie is grossly over-rated and only held my attention for so long. It's a good popcorn movie that I would say is advisable to see in the theater for the atmosphere and action alone, but the movie itself is very convoluted and gimmicky. Ledger could only do so much for it, everyone else seemed to only range from mediocre to obnoxious.

Wat? So what do you consider to be a good movie? The acting was awesome all around (although Ledger was by far the highlight); and convoluted? I prefer complex. Like most good movies.

Well since you asked..

First, the love triangle and what happened between Batman, Harvey and Rachel Dawes was a little overplayed. mostly by Harvey (that could just be Eckhart though, ever see him get mad in The Core? very overdramatic). Then, the whole cell phone mapping thing Lucius Fox came up with was very unbelievable even for a Batman movie. Also, how did The Joker keep escaping situations with the cops and the other bad guys? Like.. give me a break. And I'm sure you could come up with a valid explaination for all of these, especially in the land of fiction, but things like that erk me when a movie is trying to be serious.

And what do *I* consider a good movie? Simple.. Shawshank, 12 Angry Men, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix, V for Vendetta.. I can't see how anymore could unbiasedly put The Dark Knight above any of those. Those are just off the top of my head too, and except for Shawshank each is complex and full of good acting.

I got nothing against Batman or TDK, I just don't get what people see in it that has them putting it on such a high pedestal. Maybe it's just me, maybe I can't take a superhero movie seriously, but even being as unbiased as I can I just can't understand the hype.

I thought the movie was pretty bad.

And licking lips doesn't = oscar performance. Ledger wasn't all that great, IMHO. If he were still alive I doubt there would be the same buzz about his performance.

I haven't either... been planning on it, but you know how that goes. Oh well, just wait for Blu-ray/DVD.

Touche but explanations are easy if you look at it from a literary context.

The Joker always escaping can be symbolic of any number of things, as can the cell-phone sonar plan. Batman is the reason uber-hardcore criminals like the Joker exist. If we're talking realism here, then Batman wouldn't even exist. This is not Earth. It takes place in Gotham, not Chicago. IMO it's some plane of the twilight zone very close to Earth, but that allows people like Batman and the Joker to exist.

It's like the whole cloning thing in The Prestige. Completely impossible, but literarally siginificant. From that perspective, everything fits perfectly.

The movie took itself
1. Seriously
2. As realistically as practical for a super-hero movie
