Is this a school gym, or is this a real gym? School gym i can see this happening, but a real gym?
I have to 2nd that. This must be like a school gym or something because that behavior is not tolerated in a real gym. I've been in my share of gyms from YMCAs to big chains like a Bally's and even spent alot of time in profesional athlete facilities. In fact all the gyms I go to those steroid freaks are usually the most helpful people there. Since all they freakin do is use the equipment they are pretty knowledgable. I personally think it's great when I see an very overweight person at the gym. It means they are really trying hard to do something about their weight, no matter what the conditions of that weight is (could be glandular or whatever). Not that it can't happen of course, but normally most gyms I go to people encourage each other, not riducule. You're in the wrong gym my friend.

but gyms are not really the topic at hand here... all I have to say is that you shouldn't hate, you should feel sorry for them for they are pathetic hollow people. Don't give them the time of day. There are better things to think about.

Although i have to agree with some people here that gym pricks are often found in school gyms only. Every activity has its fair share of a-holes, unfortunetly x-man goes to the same gym as a few of them.

If it is a continuous problem, change your time of going to the gym. Or confront the problem, either talk to the a-holes or contact the teacher/manager/owner/etc.

eh ive never been made fun of at the gym. im the opposite of you: thin as hell. i lift like half of what all these guys lift. from my experience, everyone just minds their own damn biz. *shrug*

I assume it's the male territorial/trying to stand out from the crowd for the ladies thing.

I would think that they're more insecured about themselves, and feel the need to make fun of others to heighten their own ego (you see this happening here all the time). But like i said, in my 10+ years of going to the gym, i've never seen anybody that was teased or insulted.

more power to you.

but like moralpanic said, most people don't poke fun at others. i did once, but it was only because there was a crazy guy at the gym. he would do "mock lifting" where he'd pretend to have a weight in his hand - he'd go through all the motion, even give the facial expressions as if he were straining. occasionally he'd grunt. the first time i saw him, i thought that he was just practicing form. but then i saw him again, and again, and again - and each time he'd be doing the same "mock lifting" routine. wierd guy.

I've been teased and insulted. By my buddies. 😛 When I tried to bench 135lbs for the first time in my life I just wasn't strong enough, so I couldn't get the bar stable. Somehow I managed to shake off one of the 45lbs plate while trying to lift the weights. Let me tell ya.... A 45lbs plate can make a loud noise when you drop it. 😀 Oh, and they loved watching me try to shoot basketball after a workout. Airball after airball....

You know what, if there is smirking going on, it's probably not even directed at the out of shape people, but at the heroes and studs. You know, the ones that are there to pick up women and socialize more than to workout.

That really sucks, what a bunch of half-wits. And there must have been a LOT of them because chubby or not, you'd kick the sh!t out of most men - you're tall AND built big. Idiots, man, don't worry about them. Congrats on the motivation, it's tough!

Prison gym was actually the best gym i've ever been to. Equipment was old and crappy, but it was outdoors. Nothing like working out in the sun in the middle of July, or working out in the snow in the middle of December. It was great.
