Just make him pay a little extra. I mean, it really depends on how big his room is and how powerful his AC, and of course, how much your power costs. There are websites that can tell you how much electricity the ac will jack depending on its power, and just mulitply that by how long he runs it and the cost of the juice, and make him pay about 50-75 of that number, cause Im sure everyone uses the AC occasionally.

Personally, I run my ac all the time, but so do all my roomates. I get hot extremely easy, and I just like being cold. I hate the summer, LOOOVE the winter.

So yes, you are being a prick by telling him what to do and trying to shut off his circuit. And he is being a prick by running his AC all day when no one else does and not paying more. If hes unwilling to do so, kick his ass out.

Man sounds like a bunch of old ladies.

When you are living in a commune like you are (5 people in a house :roll;), you split everything and don't make rules. What's hot to one could be cold to another, etc...if he is not making other's uncomfortable deal with it. One can always make themselves warmer, it's much harder to cool down.

I keep my thermostat at 72-74 all year long sometimes lower if I am working outside.

ok i have a similar situation. there's this neighbor of ours that lives upstairs from us. i dont know him but he's a friend of my roommates. well the thing is, he has his computer over in our place and networked up to our network so that they can get a mini LAN party going sometimes. that doesn't bother me much but what does bother me is he's over here 24/7 and has his freaking computer on 24/7 too. he practically lives here although he doesn't contribute to the rent nor any electrical utilities he's using from running his computer 24/7. Our eletrical utilities alone is hitting the $100 mark and the majority of that is from our computers. although i'll have to admit, I do leave my computer on almost 24/7 as well and so do my roommates but atleast we're splitting the cost evenly.

how would i approach this to my roommates? they all seem to be close friends so i dont wanna make them think i'm an a$$hole complaining about utiilties.
