OK I didn't see anyone reply with this. If someone has sorry.

But I had a similar problem for months until SP2 of WinXP came along. There are a lot of wireless fixes in SP2 and it fixed all of mine. If you already tried this I am sorry.

I totally forgot about SP2. We didnt even install it on her laptop yet. Thats what we are going to do. First, I need to reformat it. That laptop is running way to sh!tty right now. First I will reformat, try henryay's suggestion, then install SP2. If I still have the same problems, hopefully I dont, I may have to look into one of those omni directional antennas.

Thanks yadda, Henryay and Googer! :)

UPDATE: I reinstalled Windows XP. I was surfing the web with the laptop, and I got to say, I had a terrible experience. While surfing the Oldielyrics website, I got about 10 pop up windows, and they began installing garbage onto her laptop. It was terrible. I had about 5 installers on the system tray, installing spyware and stupid crap called Adbuster and some other crap. I wasnt able to stop the installers, because Windows was not responding. Eventually it did, when all those spyware programs finished installing. So, I IMMEDIATLY went to download.com, installed Ad Aware, and it was able to pick up 987 types of Malware, Spyware, etc. Ad Aware got rid of it all, but I still had one problem. Internet Explorer had uncontrollable pop ups! Couldnt stop it! I restarted the laptop, and went ahead and downloaded FireFox. Then, I made it my default browser. So I went to Windows update, downloaded SP2. While it was installing, I was still getting those uncontrolable pop up windows from Internet Explorer. I have the Norton 15 day trial on CD, so I installed the trial, did a scan, and I picked up a virus. That virus was the Bloodhound W32 virus, or something like that, but I know it was the bloodhound virus. Norton destroyed it, and the random pop up windows went away. The laptop is running very well now. I did learn a lesson though. Download FireFox before doing anything else. Internet Explorer screwed me over! It was probably my fault that I was experiencing this crap.

About the wireless card: I reinstalled the wireless card, and I got it to connect to the internet. So far, it hasnt disconnected. My sister is happy now. I am hoping that we wont experience any problems with the wireless. If SP2 solves the problem, I will be sooooo happy!

Just wanted to let you know! :)

Thanks to those who tried to help me in my situation! I appreciate it very much!. :D

Ok, thats it! I am really getting fed up with this crap. It disconnected again. I think I am just going to email Netgear Tech support so they can figure out whats wrong with their crappy Wireless card.

Talk about it. I ditched my netgear 802.11g network today in favor of cable. It's just too damn expensive to get the signal strong enough for reliable use. Switched to CAT6 and couldn't be more stable. Kept the router though.

Just emailed them a while ago. Just waiting for a response now. I have never had such a crappy experience with a single product like I have with the MA401 wireless card. I am literally about to pull my hair out! :p Stupid Netgear! :|

What dsl service do you have?
what model and brand modem is it?
Is your dsl connection authentication pppoe?
Is your workgroup name the same on all computers?
what band(s) are you using?

DSL Service is SBC Yahoo
The modem is the 2Wire modem, last years model
We arent using PPPOE to connect to the internet. We are using TCP/IP using DHCP Server
The Workgroup name is the same on both the PC's. Both are named WORKGROUP. The two Macs have different names
Not sure what you mean by the last question. What do you mean?

The brand of the modem is 2Wire. I dont know the model, because I dont have the box anymore, and the model isnt located on the modem itself.
Wireless Band b 11mbps
I havent used PPPoE. What is the advantage of PPPoE over TCP/IP?

Did your isp give you a username and password to connect or a public address?
Your modem is probably a westell, efficient or alcatel, never heard of a 2 wire by brand

My ISP didnt give me a password or username. The modem is straight from SBC, and on the side, it says 2Wire. It also said it on the front of the modem. It also said it on the box.

What kind of connections does this modem have, obviously ethernet, usb also?
Have you ever accessed the firmware to originally set it up?

The modem has both ethernet and USB. When we set up the router, we just connected one end of the ethernet cable to the modem, and the other to the computer. Then we used the supplied phone jack thingies, plugged it into the jack on the wall and plugged the modem phone cable into the phone jack thingie. Then, we called SBC and they activated it. I dont recall doing anything to the firmware.

One last question
Please post the numbers around the barcode on the bottom of the modem on the sticker

It sounds like you have a homeportal modem router etc. It should be a router, modem wireless all in 1. The numbers you gave me are the WEP encryption for the wireless. Probably why your laptop is loosing the address. The default is to wireless on, and could be conflicting with the netgear.
Power down and disconnect the dlink from the modem. You should still have a wireless signal to the laptop. Use the numbers you posted as the wep key in the laptop and search for a network. It should find the 2wire.
I'e never used a 2wire combo like this but this might get you started. From what I understand you shouldn't have to use the netgear router at all.
Try accessing the homeportal by using "http://homeportal/management" but don't change any settings, just look.
You may have to have a ssid set to match.
How many ethernet ports does this have on the back?

Thanks for your help tiap. I will have to look into this tomorrow, since its almost 1, and my sister is already asleep. I was able to access the homeportal by using the link you provided, and was able to look around. I didnt mess with anything though. I dont want to screw anything up. :) The modem has only 1 ethernet port on the back, plus one phone jack and a port for USB.

Tiap, just to keep you updated. My sister wasnt asleep, so I was able to work on the laptop.
Ok, her internet was disconnected just now. The 2Wire connection was seen by the laptop. So I double clicked the connection, and it asked for the WEP key. I typed in the WEP key, and typed it in again to verify it, and it connected! And now her laptop is connected again! :) Thanks for your help and I appreciate it. If I have anymore questions, I will let you know. I will also keep you updated on whats going on.

Thanks so much! :D

Hello,

Just an update. Problem solved thanks to tiap! The wireless has not disconnected yet! The only time it disconnects is when my stupid modem decides to lose the internet connection. But other than that, the wireless internet is working perfectly! :D

Thanks tiap and all of those who tried to help me solve my problem! :)
