Nearly every time I walk into a Starbucks I see the tip jar overflowing with money, often I see multiple $5 bills.

Do these people not realize that Starbucks Is a multi billion dollar company? DO THEY NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!?

How about you give that $5 bill to the Homeless guy standing outside!

Honestly I'd rather give a barista $5 than a hobo. The barista will probably use it buy food or something, the hobo will probably use it buy drugs or cigarettes or beer. Plus the barista is actually working, whereas the hobo is just planting his ass on the side of the road.

have you seen the new class of homeless? young non-working lazy fuckers with iPhones. Typically with funny cardboard signs like "Need money for weed".

I glare at them when they try to come near my car while exiting a highway. If you are under 30 and begging for money on the street you are a pathetic waste of space.

Yes, the tip jar is boxed up and sent directly to Howard Schultz to help fill up his Scrooge McDuck money bin. I saw a TV show once where they had him swimming in it.

The $5 also doesn't have to be spent. It's not like you're forced to give it to the hobo or the barista...

Trust me, they aren't walking away with fat tips. Tips are calculated based on your hours and the tips for the week. It's not like the tips generated on that shift go to those workers.

You obviously haven't known many baristas because you have that almost exactly backwards. Every barista I have known spent most of their money on cigarette, beer, and drugs, mostly in that order. If they had a little money left over they spent it on food, but mostly they just stole the 2-day old baked goods from the coffeehouse to munch on while stoned.

Just a hunch, but maybe they're smart enough to use social engineering. If the tip jar is empty, a customer seeing it might think, "no one has tipped them, you don't tip people at McDonalds, why would I tip someone for pouring a cup of coffee." But, if the manager and or employees pre-stuff it (with a determined amount of cash that can be removed later), people seeing a jar filled with 5's are going to feel guilty about not even leaving a $1 tip.

Well, at least some people would feel guilty - I wouldn't, because I don't think they're the part of the service industry that deserves/works for tips. If they waited on me at a table, allowing me to sit down instead of waiting in line, then maybe.

Well yeah, and I usually don't. But if people have the money and like being generous, I'd say giving it to baristas isn't a bad choice.

They've been sort of doing that with those tap-to-pay systems. The no tip option will be a small button but they'll have big buttons for suggested tipping amounts.

Nearly every time I drive past a Starbucks I see smug people drinking overpriced coffee, often I see multiple idiots patronizing the Apple Corporation of liquid drinks.

Do these people not realize starbucks is a multi billion dollar company designed to sell overpriced coffee to the stupid masses? DO THEY NOT KNOW HOW TO PASS HEATED WATER THROUGH GROUND UP OVEN ROASTED BEANS??

How about you give that $5 bill to the government so it can be used to build a road, bridge, tank or space shuttle.
