Nearly every time I drive past a Starbucks I see smug people drinking overpriced coffee, often I see multiple idiots patronizing the Apple Corporation of liquid drinks.

$3 for a large iced coffee with free refills. no ripoff here.

I went to starbucks for the first time a couple weeks ago. Got a "grande" coffee, black. A buddy treated me and tipped them, on his phone. :hmm:

cost of 128 ounces of tap water: $.002
cost of 35 oz of ground coffee: $8.00 * (9 / 70) = $0.99

For < $1.00 I can make 1 gallon of coffee.

U = ripped off.

How about you give that $5 bill to the government so it can be used to build a road, bridge, tank or space shuttle.

The ROI on that is pretty shit. You'd be better off saving up a few more fives for some SpaceX stock, or something along those lines.

I have yet to be in a Starbucks that didn't burn the shit out of their coffee. I know this because I am not a child that fills it with a bunch of sugary garbage.

Nobody that works in that establishment deserves their wage, let along a fucking tip.

Do you guys tip if you just get a regular cup of coffee? Or only if you get a specialized drink?

I'm not saying I'd buy Starbucks (only on extremely rare occasion) but why the heck would I give the government of all places more money? Heck no, they already steal far too much of it and waste a chunk of it. No thanks, I'd rather do something actually useful with that 5 bucks.

WTF is wrong with you, the tip is for the barista for providing a service in making your drink.

Then what is the barista's job, if not to make drinks?

Nah, fuck that nonsense. It's their job to actually makes the drinks.

The first time I ever went into a Starbucks I asked for the largest black coffee they have, with nothing in it. Girl at the counter looked at me like I was an alien.

Should I climb over the counter and tip the pimply faced teenager out back at McDonalds for not putting onions on my hamburger?

It isn't much different than a waiter who provides service, and at least the waiter makes more money. Why do you tip a waiter.

Why is it anyone's business what someone else decides to tip?

So I assume you tip the cashier at the fast food joint, and at the checkout line at a store, right? RIGHT?

I find Starbucks vary widely in how careful they are with their coffee. There's only one in my area that does a good job on a regular basis, the rest it does seem like its always stale.

Also I agree Starbucks/Dunkin & almost any other coffee place you can name is expensive compared to brewing at home but the reason I get coffee out once in awhile is convenience.

And I refuse to contribute on-topic to *YATT.

*(yet another tipping thread)

YOU TIP THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT THE COMPANY.

Is it loud enough? You can tip anyone you want if you think it'll get you better service. Tipping doctors, for example, is usually offensive. Try 20% of pre-insurance price, maybe then they'll appreciate.

The barista makes your drink the cashier in a store doesn't make anything. Also cashiers make decent wage. I would tip at fastfood if they had a tip jar. In places that do, I tip.

Who tips their UPS guy? I do, on occasion, if I have some $1s on me, IF he brings my packages in past the front apt. door, and right to my inside apt. door.

I used to do it more when I lived at my old place, because I was on the 2nd floor. (I order things like DVDs and ATX cases from Newegg. Big and heavy crap.)

Few things. It's VERY probable places do this (put money in the jar) to make it LOOK like other people tipped so you feel more guilty.

Personally, I hate the shit too. Unless someone waited on me to the point where I can say "Hey lackie, go get me some fresh water and silverware. CHOP CHOP!" then they are just doing their job.

These days there is this notion that if you have a service job, you are entitled to get tips. Nothing is worse than having tip lines for my receipts that I have to fill in $0.00 for. I also see people tipping on the bus that takes you from the Airport to a Car Parking Service... ISNT THAT THE POINT OF THE CAR PARKING SERVICE? That you can get to your car and not walk 2 miles to it? /sigh.

That said, I work in consulting. It's a job that entails LOTS of service for clients. Apparently I'm missing out on this. Someone owes me 3 years in back-tips!!!
