So, as usual, UPS screws me.
My dad got in a car accident on monday, so to try to add a bit of humor to the situation, I went on amazon and bought him a book called "Flat out and half turned over" (which is how his car ended up - although the book description was something like "humorous tales of car racing stories") (he's fine, btw) I do this on monday afternoon, and pay the $9 or whatever to get the book there in two days.
Anyway, long story short, what CHANGED between now and then is that they live in SW florida, which is now under an oh-my-god-get-out-there's-a-hurricane-coming status. (which yes, happened very suddenly)
So what happens?
UPS delivers my package and leaves it at the front door.
Now, I understand, that in many cases, you would want this to happen. However, let's look at the facts. 1) the package is from amazon.com. Hard to mistake that, as they plaster their name all over everything, and presumably it is pretty easily identified as a book. 2) Half the SW coast of florida is now under recommended evacuation. 3) My parents live in a sleepy little retirement town and I'd say less than half the residents have normal 9-5 jobs, so normally there's a 50/50 shot of someone being home. 4) It's not like the UPS driver would be a stranger to the neighborhood, and presumably everything around the house was "packed up" and the normal 2 cars outside were now 0, etc. I wouldn't count on it, but it wouldn't be impossible that the front windows of the house were even taped up.
So, obviously, this afternoon my parents decided to get the hell out of dodge, since there's supposed to be a hurricane hitting tomorrow midday. As far as I can tell, they probably did this oh, an hour or two before UPS dropped off the book.
I know, I know. Normally I'd be complaining that UPS DIDN'T deliver a package on time. But this time, I'm complaining that they delivered it, on time, and left it on the front doorstep... a day before a hurricane was scheduled to hit.
Pure genius.
