I hate UPS

So, as usual, UPS screws me.

My dad got in a car accident on monday, so to try to add a bit of humor to the situation, I went on amazon and bought him a book called "Flat out and half turned over" (which is how his car ended up - although the book description was something like "humorous tales of car racing stories") (he's fine, btw) I do this on monday afternoon, and pay the $9 or whatever to get the book there in two days.

Anyway, long story short, what CHANGED between now and then is that they live in SW florida, which is now under an oh-my-god-get-out-there's-a-hurricane-coming status. (which yes, happened very suddenly)

So what happens?

UPS delivers my package and leaves it at the front door.

Now, I understand, that in many cases, you would want this to happen. However, let's look at the facts. 1) the package is from amazon.com. Hard to mistake that, as they plaster their name all over everything, and presumably it is pretty easily identified as a book. 2) Half the SW coast of florida is now under recommended evacuation. 3) My parents live in a sleepy little retirement town and I'd say less than half the residents have normal 9-5 jobs, so normally there's a 50/50 shot of someone being home. 4) It's not like the UPS driver would be a stranger to the neighborhood, and presumably everything around the house was "packed up" and the normal 2 cars outside were now 0, etc. I wouldn't count on it, but it wouldn't be impossible that the front windows of the house were even taped up.

So, obviously, this afternoon my parents decided to get the hell out of dodge, since there's supposed to be a hurricane hitting tomorrow midday. As far as I can tell, they probably did this oh, an hour or two before UPS dropped off the book.

I know, I know. Normally I'd be complaining that UPS DIDN'T deliver a package on time. But this time, I'm complaining that they delivered it, on time, and left it on the front doorstep... a day before a hurricane was scheduled to hit.

Pure genius.

Because they won't do that unless whoever shipped it paid for signature confirmation.

Well it looks like they got the package. Have a beer and be lucky nothing happened to the package

Uh, no. UPS left the package sitting on the ground in front of the house. (which my parents had already left)

If they're lucky, it won't get blown more than a mile away by the time they get back. (which isn't saying much, as the beach is only 1/4 mile away)

Hey I work for UPS, but if anyone saw my post a few weeks ago, you will know, I have no bias towards them. And I guess I could see this still being UPS's fault as they hired the retard. But it is the drivers discretion to leave the package or not. SO in this case you should technically be hating the stupid driver, not necessarily the equally if not more so stupid company. But as I said, I don't really care. If you want to complain about UPS, more power to you, I do it every day, even when I am at work.LOL

Why wouldn't one want to confirm it?

Because it used to be free. 😀

Yea, UPS is really retarded for delivering your package. How the fvck is he supposed to know your parents wouldn't be coming back? God I swear you fvcking idiots just complain about the most retarded sh!t nowadays.

Brainiac, they live 1/4 mile from the beach and there is a hurricane due to hit there tomorrow morning. Given these circumstances, would YOU leave a package from amazon.com on their front doorstep?

(I mention who the package is from, because it DOES make a difference - if the package was from "US Pacemaker supplies" or from "canned food and dry goods inc" or were something obviously perishable or important, then I would expect the driver to leave it. But I think it is safe to say that MOST packages from amazon.com are "discretionary spending" and that most people would know that)

PS: If it's not clear, I really DON'T think UPS is 100% in the wrong, and I appreciate that they were even out delivering packages today - I just wanted to share the irony. Honestly I think that there were a number of better ways UPS could have handled this situation though.

Can they call a neigbor and tell them to pick it up?

Well I dont think the driver did anymore than what he needed to do.

If he takes it back then he's got to tell UPS what the hell is the package doing back there if no signature was needed.

I dont think the driver has any clue at all what is going on at your house. He doesn't know when the people left, or when the people will be back. All he had to do was deliver the package and that's it.

If everyone in this world went the extra mile then I guess it would be one happy place. 🙂

Another thing I don't get. Why does UPS deliver items that require signature confirmation during the middle of the day when obviously no one is home because THEY'RE AT WORK.

lol what do you want them to do? work their schedule with yours? deliver at night time and have their work overloaded because they have to wait for people to get home?

seriously, some of you guys think UPS can read minds and know exactly what's convenient for you. 🙁

what's wrong with delivering at night. they're giving themselves more work because they have to retry delivery again and again or they have to resort our packages for pick up.

most of the time they will either leave it there, or give it to a neighbor to sign.

If it were me, I wouldn't have had a package sent UPS Ground if I knew there was a chance of a hurricane coming. But I'm also not retarded.

Agreed

Hah, well, clearly had I known, I wouldn't have done it. At the time that I sent the package, the hurricane had just as much a chance of hitting MY house (on the other side of florida) or even texas for that matter.

As for how I know where it is - the UPS tracking page clearly states that the package was left at "front door."

But seriously, does THIS look like a good situation for a cardboard box?
