I'm trypanophobic, and I tried to go through with a blood test this morning---I probably have acid reflux, but the symptoms of that and of pre-diabetes are very similar, and both diseases run in my family---but the drugs my doctor prescribed to calm me down (Xanax and something else) failed to suppress the behavior. Miserably.

Compared to injections, pills are heavenly.

what i'm saying is most people don't even need the pills. most people have symptoms to disorders than can be treated by alternative healthcare.

pills only fix the symptom... they don't fix the problem.

The wife has the same as above plus about 15 more for depression, kidney, and heart problems. She has three of those weekly pill boxes that have morning, noon, night, and bed sections - fully loaded.
Be glad you don't have her regimen; it would take you all day!

that's disgusting.

your wife doesn't need all those pills. she's a big pharma cash cow.

why doesn't she try alternative health care before she downs 15 health-deteriorating, symptom-causing, bullsht pills?

Alternative health care doesn't have the answer to every health issue, especially the ones she has - we've researched it. Vitamins and herbs don't offset chemical imbalances in the brain, and they can actually be quite detrimental to people with kidney disorders. The meds she's on have her in the best health she's been in since I've known her.

You may want to try making a less rabid and stand-offish post next time. Calling somebody's spouse a 'big ... cow' and berating their medical choices because they're not 'alternative' doesn't exactly open people's minds to want to listen to your suggestions.

she's got depression, kidney, and heart problems. unless it has to do with physical abnormalities, i doubt you've researched enough.

vitamins, exercise, and chiropractic adjustments can actually help with chemical imbalances in the brain.

i called her a cash cow because that's what she is to big pharma.

big pharma = pfizer, eli lilly, etc.
cash cow = something that makes you a lot of money

what does she have, exactly? i'm actually studying to be a doctor.

what are you taking?

9/10 times you can just get a powder form version. i mix all my supplements into one mixed drink that tastes like ass and just chug the whole thing down at once.

That was my suggestion as well.

Sometimes just popping them in your mouth without spending time thinking about the fact that you will probably have problems swallowing them helps. (If that makes sense...sometimes it's just mind-over-matter!)

Also, don't take them when anyone else is around...takes the pressure off!

Hopefully, at some point in your studies you will come across Evidence Based Medicine.

A good understanding of EBM, research methodology and critical appraisal should hopefully lead you to understand why hebal remedies and non-specific vitamin supplements are rarely prescribed by doctors.

I would also urge you not to advise people that they don't need their prescription medications based purely of a forum posting, and also to refrain from advising people to look to 'alternative health care', a sector with very little supervision and regulation. Especially so, for someone who clearly has a complex medical history and is at potential risk of suffering side effects or undersirable drug interactions.

you're right... most medical doctors prescribe drugs that cure symptoms only to start others.

i'd urge you to actually go to/through some type of medical/healthcare education before you start talking about research or evidence-based care before you start talking about them. to incinuate that vitamins, herbal remedies, or chiropractic treatment for patients with certain ailments is stupid is, actually, stupid.

believe it or not, not everything a doctor prescribes you is good for you.... nor will it get to the root of the problem. some forms of alternative care aim at fixing the cause of the problems, not just the symptoms. that's the problem with today's medicine... pharmaceutical companies pay big bucks in order for people to come up with disorders to put in the dsm.
