I hate RPGs that auto level enemies to match you.

The best part about auto leveling is how ridiculous some of the scripted events go. In Oblivion, when highwaymen are wearing full glass armor, they try and rob you for 17 gold... Really? In armor without thousands, you want 17 gold?

I do prefer the zone based leveling. Stumbling into that dungeon in Morrowind and quickly finding out you're not high enough level to make it out just gives you a place to mark for exploration in the future.

I also hate auto-leveling. Takes the immersion out of the game and makes leveling up pointless. Becoming stronger as a character isn't only about yourself getting stronger but how much stronger you are in respect to your environment.

This is what has me disgruntled with Dead Island. They introduce more skilled/difficult to kill enemies as you progress like the Infected, Thugs, Suiciders, Floaters, Rams, and Butchers, but then make it where 2 or 3 standard Walkers can still hand you your A** in no time flat if you are trying to complete the whole story solo. I know they designed it with 4 player co-op in mind, but I'd like to complete the experience solo first. They should have capped the Walkers at like level 2, Infected @ level 5, Thugs @ 10, Suiciders @ 20, Floaters @ 30, Rams @ 40, and Butchers @ 50 and simply made the harder enemy classes a little more prevalent as your level increases.

Add torchlight to the list. This is what made me quite the game. Once you get into the level 60's you kind of max out your skill tree for damage when that happens the amount of damage you do compared to the monsters starts to degrade. It starts to take longer and longer just to kill trash mobs. What I could kill in 3 to 5 seconds started to take 7 to 10 second. There was not way to stop from leveling because when you killed a mob it added to your leveling.

Torchlight also had enchants that built up your damage on weapons and you could add as many as you could as long as you had the gold BUT the enchants has a 3% failure rate. After a few failures, rage quitting and running out of gold I quit that game. I loved Torchlight but that leveling system just caused to many problems.

Also when you failed you lost every enchant you had on the weapon even the base skills that might have been on the weapon when you found it.

The key to Dead Island is kicking. I beat the entire game solo and had no problems really. I'd die here and there but that was it. Only time I died more then once in an spot is when it spawns me right in the middle of the mob of crap that just killed me (good coding there devs :\ )

I'm @ level 33 and chapter 11 in the jungle using the bladed weapons expert.. I use the kicking feature as much as possible but I feel that the reliance on HAVING to kick to survive is kind of a cheap, but in this case necessary, way out. I would have preferred to be able to make it work using pure combat.

It goes against the whole feeling of how an RPG should play out. As you progress through a game you should feel more and more powerful not more and more overwhelmed. This isn't to say I don't mind a good challenge but when you are level 50 say and your being slaughtered by an army of level 50 monsters it takes the fun out of a lot of these otherwise great games. Currently I'm playing Tactic Ogre and it's fantastic! My only problem with it is the auto levelling. The story battles don't auto level, only the random encounters. So I can wipe the floor with some of the story mode battles then have my ass handed to me by 1/2 the random encounters. :(

I hate auto levelling. This is why I never played Oblivion but I'm gonna go ahead and give Skyrim a shot. I assume it does the same thing.

I don't feel it is cheap cause to me it seems a lot of stuff was designed around using it, no way even with other people can you get away from some of the hordes they throw at you. I was in my mid 30s when I beat the game and was a blade expert as well.

I've never had a problem with killing mobs in Torchlight... if you exclude those incredibly powerful demon/woman caster creatures. If I get a few of those at once, they just seem to destroy me quickly. I play as a fan-made class (I think it's The Assassin), and I have a few other mods that are almost necessary. For example, I can actually go above the level cap.

You might also enjoy the mod that makes it so enchants can never fail. It might be considered kind of cheating, but as you've seen... enchants are almost necessary in Torchlight. Enchanting is also extremely expensive after awhile. My items cost around 10,000 to 25,000 gold per enchant. I even use a "no whites" mod, so I get only good items, which in turn gives you more money since they sell for more. Even with that influx of money, I still can barely support enchanting items.

Although, the large amount of enchants made the large caster demon packs at least possible. My resistances are between 1500-2500 for each type.

There is mods for the Xbox? I played as a caster and dual wield wands. So most of my power was from big crits. I'm not saying I could not kill mobs but you can see as you leveled up that power was degrading. Ya if enchants never failed that would of keep it in check as long as you had gold but I guess you can get a mod for unlimited gold too how about a mods for death touch when they touch me I instantly kill them

Seriously? I LOVE auto-levelling. It was the reason I actually liked Oblivion. Why do you want the game easier? Frickin boring if you ask me.

So would you be happy IRL if you got a huge 100% raise, but then all your bills doubled too? Or at the same time you get a college degree, a fry cook at McDonalds gets bumped to the same salary as you?

Wait, that sounds a lot like real life. Guess Oblivion is accurate. :\

Oh, you play on the 360? You're screwed then. :p

I don't think there are unlimited gold mods, but I'd have to look. I mean... it's not like the mods are trying to be like Game Genie. They're more like slight tweaks.

The first time I played Ultima IV I got to level 3 and was like "Oh shit, I probably shouldn't have done that".
