I hate my job

I'm sick and trying to get out of here. My boss just came in to tell me all about the guy they hired to take my place since I wasn't hired to do my own job through some shady govt shenanigans. Not only are they taking my cell phone (actually a good thing), they're taking my chair (bad thing) and the new hire has a choice of either my office or the corner glass office that I have been prevented from using.

They wouldn't hire me because I only have windows server experience and we run primarily debian servers, but this guy has experience with neither and we're migrating to windows servers before the end of the year. Pretty much the only "good" thing about him is that he's an ex-marine.

I am expecting my hours to be slashed in the imminent future since I've been working full time on part time pay ever since this job opened up. This will be my second major pay cut since I was layed off from my corperate job in may.

School is killing me and I'm getting close to graduating (on a wing and a prayer) in the spring, but until then, these shenanigans are going to make it hard to pay fvcking bills, let alone keep up with the wining and dining my girlfriend has come to expect from me 🙁

I know you guys are going to say "waah-mbualnce this" and "cheese with that whine" that, but I've been having a sh!tty semester and just needed to vent

cliffs:
1) I got cheated out of my own job at work, impending pay cut. By the end of the year, I will be earning 25% of what I earned same time last year while working 95% of the hours.
2) school is killing me
3) gf is going to be as understanding as a todler.

well that sucks...I feel your pain ,working and going to school is a pain in the ass. This semester has been a killer for me too but I am pulling through so far, only one more month.

Regards

ng

Time to get one of those low maintenance GFs. Never seen one personally, but I've heard they are around.
😀

Your girlfriend should understand and cut you some slack. If not, she's a turd and you should cut her loose. That'll save you some cash.

We do exist. 🙂

boss just found out that I'm skipping out so he moved up the staff meeting to accomidate. I guess thats a good thing. All of my work is done for the day, so I'm off to the meeting and then going home to rest (aka: still be sick, but doing HW instead of pretending to do real work)

That's right. Sounds like you'll be happy in the long run to get away from that job - who wants to work in that kind of environment?

They do exist. My wife is low maintenance. She has expensive tastes but only when we can afford it without compromising something else. 🙂

She also loves football and knows the rules. 😀

1. and 2. i can see, and it's unfortunate.

3. is bullsh!t. some kinda girlfriend that is.

maybe it's because you're still in school and the ex-marine is not...

But it does suck to get paycuts.

<-- hugs his job

Aha. The new trend - IT slowly being replaced by those that have been or are in the military.

The person in charge of hiring or any managers up the chain, were they in the military as well?

Dude, we all go through this. It sucks, but it happens for a reason. There will be better work/pay for you in the future. You just have to survive until then.

This will also show you your gf's true colors either way. If she acts like a turd, then just flush her. If she stays by your side, then marry her before she wisens up and leaves you.

Professional and personal relationships change overtime, but usually we have less control over those factors affecting our working situation than we do over those affect our personal lives.

If your girlfriend is as understanding as a 'toddler' perhaps you should look elsewhere. You don't always have to pay-for-poon. Maybe she should respond to your financial qualms by wining and dining you for a while. If that is all that is keeping you together, your job is the least of your worries. Regardless, get another job if they're going to screw you over, life is too short to be emasculated every day like that. Good luck OP.

WAIT WAIT WAIT hold up, stop the thread......you're making 25% of what you were last year at this time??? How much do you earn now?? Just get a job paying near minimum wage for a few more hours per week...wouldn't you be earning more then? Honestly if you're at 1/4 of what you were before you can't be earning that much as is....so why on Earth would you stay there??
