I HATE my girlfriend's drug-infested family!

I have heard today what is possibly the dumbest and most ignorant thing I've ever heard of anyone doing. A little backstory: My girlfriend's 70 year-old grandpa died in what was pretty much a horrendous car accident this past Wednesday. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt when he crossed the medium of a highly trafficked and hit head-on into a Jeep. Needless to say, his whole upper body was crushed, and the funeral home did a helluva job getting him to look halfway decent for an open-casket funeral. Very sad weekend for me and my girlfriend to say the least. Her grandpa always made an effort to have a conversation with me whenever I was around, unlike most her of her family (they're a hateful bunch).

The visitation was yesterday, and in attendance was my gf's 2 cousins, both guys at the age of 22 and 19. The 22 year-old is trying his best to get away from drugs, but it's hard for him because they live in a small town here in Kentucky, and drugs is about all there is to do for the youngins. His brother of 19 has gotten worse and worse as he's gotten older, and his bitch of a skank girlfriend doesn't help him at all, seeing as to how she is more addicted to oxycottons more than he is.

Anyways, both the 19 year-old and his gf were in attendance, and seemed to greive more than anyone. Same way with the funeral today. I actually felt sorry for them, especially for the girl. She seemed so upset, even though she was not related to the family in any way. After the funeral, everyone gathered at my gf's grandmas house to eat and just be together. This included all the immediate family, friends, the VFW (her grandfather served in the Korean war), and some church folk. Everyone was eating and having a good time for what it was worth. There were atleast 50-70 people in this small house, so there were people in the 2 bedrooms eating as well. My gf's 19 year-old cousin and his girlfriend were in one of the bedrooms by themselves for a while, then the girl got 'sick' and had to leave shortly after they had ate.

Well, my gf and I left shortly thereafter. My gf's mom called just a few minutes ago, and said that one of the ladies from my gf's grandpa's church was getting ready to leave, and couldn't find her purse. They finally found it shoved in between the bed and the wall in the room where my gf's cousin and his gf were for a short period. What was missing? $180! And this isn't the first time one of my gf's cousin's have stole something. The 22 year-old used to cut my gf's dad's yard. He took it upon himself one day to steal about $500 worth of Snap On tools, and sold half of them for drugs. My gf's dad found the other half in his trunk. Unfortunately, he didn't press charges because of the pressure his sister was giving him. They are his sister's sons.

I know some of you won't care about this, but I have to vent. For them to do something like this on a day like this, it's just sad. Drugs are stupid and they make people stupid. End of story.

A. It's oxycontin. Oxycotton sounds like acne products.
B. Snap-On tools r0x0rz. They should burn in heck for that.
C. I hope you feel better soon.

Perhaps they will both overdose soon and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

What are these snap on tools I hear of? I am intrigued. Look on the brightside, you won't have to worry about your girlfriends family after you breakup.

While I'm tempted to say it would take a very cold person to steal at a funeral reception, I guess in reality it's just what drug addicts do. The families aren't helping by closing their eyes when they steal stuff.

I have a friend who told his crackhead thieving daughter that he would spend his last dime trying to get her off drugs, but if she stole so much as one more dime he'd call the cops and press charges. That was after she stole two credit cards to get cash advances and sold a few of the family antiques. He wanted her to know it wasn't that he didn't want to help her, but he wasn't going to let her steal from her family for drug money.

Unfortunately, she didn't want to get off drugs, so she left home threatening to start hooking to get money and he just told her she was welcome back whenever she wanted to come home.

I don't know how to respond to statements like this.

One one hand, I sympathize with Woodchuckcharlie in that these people are a disgrace to their families, but on the other hand ever since my brother died this summer from heroin use, it's not just bad choices that lead someone down this road but also are symptoms of a disease which require not just the efforts of the individual but the efforts of the entire family to combat as well.

I should be mad at mflacy's statement above, but instead I'm just filled with sorrow that I could have/should have done more to help my brother, and while I'm sure there are plenty of people he'd crossed that have similar sentiments to mflacy's, once someone close to you dies under such miserable circumstances you can't help but reassess how you affect those around you.

Yeh, boo to addiction.
The problems that an Everquest geek has is actually kinda similar to the crak whore.
Just that everquest time is a little easier to come by than crak and probably lasts longer too.

Woodchuckcharlie, if it makes you feel any better, they probably dont mean to do it.
They're addicted and some VERY powerful and primal parts of your brain take over when you're addicted.
Your long term goal becomes your next hit of crak or whatever.
Treatment for addiction is really hard because of the underlying neurochemistry that is so radically altered.
There is one guy(Eric Nestler) who is actively working on figuring out the molecular biology behind addiction and he's really making some great strides. Perhaps in time, his work will produce a drug that prevents such hardcore addiction and the intrinsic/extrinsic reward systems that keep you wanting more.
Until then though... I guess there's Betty Ford.

Drugs dont make people steal. People choose to steal. Plenty of people support their drug habits without ripping off others.

Those people suck, not drugs.

During a funeral so they could buy more drugs, i'd say it's ranked up there pretty high.

It was very stupid for them to steal the money. But I don't think most people understand that drug addiction isn't a problem, it's a disease.

Oxycontin didn't steal the money, your gf's cousins made the choice to use oxy and probably other drugs without being aware of their side-affects. Not everybody that chooses to use drugs turns into anything close to an addict.

Sadly, if charges are not pressed, then those affected are just "enabling" the drug addicts to continue. Maybe it takes an arrest for them to realize that they truly need help.

WoodChuck, This is a very sad situation. Very sorry that it had to make a sad moment like a funeral even sadder. :(

I'm still not convinced one way or another as to whether addiction is actually a disease or not...

It's not. It is simply the PC crowd's crutch for situations like this so they can release the person in question from responsibility. It is merely an extension of the victim mentallity that the liberals have sadly and successfully created.
