I hate my bank

So I wake up this morning and I notice I was charged a $6.00 "Classic member activation fee". I was like....wtf...I only have $90 in this account and they charged me $6 of it. So I go and talk with the people at the bank. Turns out that anything I do at the BANK ITSELF, I get charged a "activity" fee. I don't get charged with any online transfers or anything...

I have never heard of a bank charging $6 to deposit a $90 check!

This is my local bank at school. Most of my money(thank god) is not at this bank.

Heres a copy of my chat with them

UPDATE 1: HERE

UPDATE 2: I am going to close my account with them and try to get my money back. But who knows, I might get charged for closing my account....or maybe even walking into the bank.

UPDATE 3: I closed out my account with them today. Wrote some nice comments on the reasons why I was closing the account.

They gave me a check, and surprise, they told me I would not be charged to cash this check in the branch....that makes sense, now that I am not a account holder, don't charge me.

Backwards logic if you ask me...

Are you sure that there's no minimum balance requirement to avoid the fee? I opened up an account with Chase when I was in college and if I didn't keep at least $250 in my savings account at all times in a given month, they would charge me $5. Needless to say, I closed that account once I got a car and didn't need the on-campus branch.

I have a restriction like that on my BofA account. If I use more than 1 teller transaction per billing cycle, I get a $3 service charge per visit. I've been meaning to switch banks for the longest time but been too lazy to do it.

I guarantee that the information you were given when you opened your account disclosed that fee.

HERE(edited for confidentiality)

you are paying a teller fee for using a teller like citibank/bank one or someother bank

I walked in and gave them a check at their main branch

check your records for a rules/regulation phamplet. Its says stuff about fees.

tell them you want a refund or you'll close the account

banks often forgive fees if you make it a condition on staying a customer there.

I'd then close the account a week later anyway... just to spite'em. What a bunch of sh!theads....

CharterOne doesn't have transaction fees, but wants you to use their own teller or they charge 1.75 on top of what ever fees the bank charges. I would like to switch myself, I have been lazy.

I don't see it saying activation...it says "activity"

Needless to say I think I am going to close my account here. If it was a $10,000 checked I cashed....and wanted the money on spot. Then I could understand a fee. Seeing as it was a $90 deposit....thats nearing 10% of the value of the check. Screw them!

i would raise bloody hell. that is ludricous and criminal! raise hell and get your money back and then close all accounts ASAP.

were you not notified of these charges? You should have been notified twice. Once when the policy was put into place, and again before the transaction was initiated.
