I found these sweet and spicy mixed nuts that i devour. I even bring some to work to snack on. My wife told me yesterday they stopped carrying it at both Costco's near us.

It was obviously popular because Brainhulk's houshold buys 2 at a time.

So whhhhhhhy?

Their stock is dependent on the supplier's ability to supply it in the volumes they want, as well as the overall sales across the company.

I've noticed a lot of things end up being kinda seasonal, so I stock up when they're there.

Prices for Almonds/Walnuts are skyrocketing because of the California drought.

It is a cheap bulk discount store. Do you want cheap or do you want consistent? Pick one.

I love when they start to carry brands I like. It feels like hitting the mini lotto. Seeing Just Mayo in there made my week last week.

The worst part is that different Costcos will carry different stuff with little to no rationale. It's like playing Russian Roulette sometimes.

And the website has different products/deals than the stores do as they are mostly run by the warehouses.

Its all kinda a crapshoot.

Sometimes the manufacturer wants a price hike and a giant retailer says no, and they just won't carry the product any more. Maybe that's what happened.

There was a great article a few years ago in Fast Company about how Walmart deals with the supplier costs (much of the story was about a $2.99 gallon jar of Vlasic pickles that almost ruined Vlasic). Fascinating how much power the big stores have.

This is correct. It's why Costco is awesome- they have shoppers that go around the country and buy huge quantities of unique, high quality specialty items to carry in their stores. The down side is those products may be special limited runs, or the supplier is small and it takes a long time to build up enough stock to replenish supplies. Therefore items at Costco seem to come and go.

Most likely seasonal.

I've thought they dropped items before only to find that they've moved them to some other location in the store.

That's one reason I can almost never go shopping for anything specific at Costco. I just go for large volumes of the basics and then hope for the rest.

It's like going to a grocery store that has a high end rummage sale section. You never know what you're going to get.

I like stores like that. It adds adventure to the shopping experience. Stuff comes and goes, so there's new stuff every week. If you especially like something, buy a ton.

The other thing I hate about Costco is I really don't need to buy 2 litres of mayo at a time.

I'd love if we had a Costco here. The nearest one is 3 hours away. I did get to go to it when I got my eye surgery though, and it was epic.

That's what you get for living in Timmins. That, and very cold winters.

BTW, it's less than 3 hours to Costco if you fly. ;)

Last year Costco started carrying the Eggo mini buttermilk pancakes and my kids loved them. All of a sudden they disappeared from Costco. I couldn't find another store that carried them so I contacted Kellog's corporate and apparently the closest chain store that carried them was 300 miles away. The same thing with the Chocolate Cheerios, carried them for a while and then disappeared. At least with Chocolate Cheerios I found them at Smart Final. I know first world problems.

Costco way to far for me. One is about 45 minutes from where I live and the other is about 25 minutes.

They did that with pizzelles almost 2 years ago. If they ever bring them back we are going to buy a pallet of them
