Motorweek is his show.
Get rid of him and pat goss and you have no motorweek.
I remember adjusting rabbit ears on the TV to watch Motorweek.
Holy crap...I think I started watching that show back in 1983. John Davis and Pat Goss probably contributed to me loving cars (and fixing them myself)

Reading Peter Egan's articles in Road & Track probably did it for me more than anything.

John Davis' voice just makes me insane. I find it so annoying that I have to dive for the remote when a commercial for MotorWeek comes on. It feels as though he is so plain-vanilla that he has to try too hard to inject a little emotion into his delivery. I absolutely can't stand that guy.

I can't stand John Davis' voice either. It just grates on me. I like the reviews but his delivery and affectation just comes off as phony... he's like the Casey Kasem of car reviewers.

30+ years of the same delivery.
After awhile your mind filters out his voice.

My wife hates Pat Goss with a passion. He does come across as being condescending fairly often. Oh well. I too have been watching that show since the late 80's.

I don't mind Fifth Gear. Tiff is great and I like Johnny. He's quirky in an amusing way. Plato is like the British Tanner Foust; full of himself. Vicki is OK...the squealing gets a little old but at least you can see she's having fun.

When I was a kid, Pat Goss segment was my favorite part of the show.
Found out how things worked and how to fix them.

I actually emailed Pat Goss about a factual mistake they made on their show and got the most condescending reply back. This was the content of his reply.

Do you have any idea how many coil-overs a real retail production shop sees in a day? Not worth discussing unless it is a race, performance car or modification segment but thanks anyway.

Pat Goss gives worthless advice. The industry has passed that old fart by.

I'll support Motorweek just because they were the only ones doing a car show that I could watch for so many years. It always cracks me up when John Davis does the lead in for Goss's Garage and they switch over to Pat and he says "Thanks John". It's so cheesy.

Fifth Gear can be pretty annoying. TG USA may surpass them in the standings of the three pretty soon. The USA version is slowly getting better, while Fifth Gear become more annoying. They seem to spend a lot of time going on about how terrible American cars are. Top Gear UK pretty much does also, but at least they are funny when they do it.

Anyone else like Wheeler Dealers on Velocity?

I really enjoy most car shows. I do like Wheeler Dealer and find it funny that the tallest man on earth has to cram himself into cars to fix them. He also gets the shaft as he provides 100% of the labor and they barely make any money.

ya its good fun though not really realistic because they never factor in labor. Think the tall man works for free?

really though Fifth gear would be great if they replaced plato with Jackie Stewart and VBH with Begbie

Wheeler Dealers is great but I apparently have to wait six months for one episode I haven't seen before to show up.

Yeah Ed China. Looks like he gets screwed over as he does all the work and you don't even see him drive the cars.

Oh I bet they make money.

I love Wheeler Dealers. It is one of my favorite shows.

For the average viewer I would have to agree Pat's generalization is perfectly reasonable. Remember, the show isn't aimed at enthusiasts.

Tanner has something to be arrogant about, he's one of the best drivers in the world. Johnny isn't.

Thats the whole idea of the show. You buy a car cheap that needs work, fix it up yourselves, and try to sell it for a profit.

I'm sorry, but Tanner Foust is not one of the best drivers in the world. He does have something to be arrogant about on Top Gear though. He's a better driver than any of the host on any of the Top gear shows anywhere. Not counting the Stig.

Huh? Johnny makes no claims about being a driver. He's there for the non-driving bits; new classics, good used cars, gadgets, etc.

I think he may be comparing him to Jason. Even so. Jason is no slouch. Double touring car champ.

BS, he regularly drives in the RoC, and you don't get invites to that unless you are one of the best in the world. I get it, people don't like him because he's cocky, but don't disparage his skill as a driver.

Regularly? 3 times and it's not like there are a ton of American drivers lining up. Hell Carl Edwards was the last one out there and there are much more capable NASCAR drivers. He's a good rally car driver, but far from one of the best all around in the USA, let alone the world.
