I HATE COLLEGE DORMS!!!!!!!

vi_edit UIC is literally two blocks from the projects. I know, I went there - and transferred out 🙂 They do have a good engineering prgram though.
 
JACKHAMMER is the curfew rumor true? I heard that at one point students weren't allowed out of the dorms after 10:30 PM.

Any truth to that?
 
yes it is...the dmz is on the other side which we never touch. however, the beauty of it is that they are all boarded up now and preparing them to be knocked down...but you can't beat the close proximity of the campus to greektown for excellent food and the proximity to downtown. this side of campus is pretty nice. the other side however is the projects...

but when you think about it. U of Chicago is surrounded on all 4 sides by projects...

i wish i was at U of Chicago...🙁
 
Nope, I meant UIC. This was back in the early to mid 90's when I heard about it. But supposably the crime rate was so bad around there(muggings, assaults, ect) that the college impossed a curfew on the campus that you couldn't be outside of the dorms after 10:30.

I had never heard anything concrete to confirm this rumor though. That's why I asked 🙂
 
I wonder what your RA would have said about the 2 kegs we had when I was a freshman (read: not 21).. We never got caught with them, always too crafty. They'd hear word we have a keg, we'd pour the beer into bottles and walk around the hallway showing him we dinnit have a keg. We'd have to pour that beer out, but more was just a keg away.

We were pretty crafty about bringing in cases too. RA knew we went on a beer run and saw the car pull up outside so he walks down to the entrance and just stands here. We get on the other side of the brick wall and hand the beer up to the 2nd floor with him no more than 3 feet away.

I got caught once for putting beer in the floor ice maker. Made me pour them out. I got bored after the 2nd one and just carried them back to my room. Too many bottles to fit in my mini-fridge. OH well.
 
no, the dorms are great here now. there's barely any violence that we know off. there's only been 2 incidents here this year but the security is pretty high since then. no curfew at all now. only thing is that crazy drunk people love to pull the freaking fire alarm a least once or twice a week at the worst times. sometimes even twice in one night.
 
Whel, I live where dorms are ranked #1 dungeons....

I have to say that my biggest complaint besides living in a building that obviously and blatantly violates building code and living with a bunch of slobs (why people feel the need to leave toilet paper and uhm...feminine products all over the floors and not flush toilets is beyond me...you wouldn't do it in your own home, why do it in a dorm?)....is NOISE. It's so god@mn loud here 24/7 between the sorority b!tches across the hall who go out 2-4 nights a week (and I'm not even around on fri/sat night), the sXe boys next door who like to blast their music, and the wannabe white rappers who live upstairs and next door who make me listen to the basslines of their music all the time. Yeah, the walls are thin and it's college, but that's no excuse to be outrageously loud on weeknights after quiet hours (8:10 am class is a reality here...many of my classes aren't offered at other times) and it would be rather nice not to "share" at other times of the day when people are presumably doing homework, not partying.

</rant off before i get tempted to go on a killing spree>

j/k 🙂, before someone tries to track down my location and &quot;warn&quot; housing (who would ignore me anyway...i had a death threat that was ignored just a few months ago 🙂)

<edit>I think my biggest issue here is respect...of the buildings themselves and of other people. While I can understand the @sshole RA, it's even worse when you have one who can't be bothered to do anything for you if you're not cool enough in his/her books, especially if you REALLY need something done for you. And as far as drinking in college dorms...if you're smart, it's not hard to get away with it. Be nice to the RAs so they won't be trying to go after you, keep the traffic in and out of your room reasonable, and keep it quiet. And for god's sake...if you puke in the bathrooms, clean up after yourselves.</edit>

I'm in the dorms at Cal State San Jose. The bathrooms here are a joke. When I get there in the morning it looks like someone masturbated an elephant and got it all over the floor. The floor is all sticky with who knows what. Also, there has been someone (pranksters?) who a) crapped on the floor RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOILET or b) crapped on toilet paper and smashed it against the stall walls.



EDIT: As I post this I just found in one of the stalls a piece of turd on some toilet paper that's been put on one of the toilet seats. GOD I HATE THIS SCHOOL.........

Switch floors to a different RA or if need be Switch dorms, also be sure to write your RA up and file a Formal complaint, if you can get others to do the same you can get him fired (no more free room and board for him)

RA's are not allowed to search a students room no matter what, the only people who can are police and that is with a warrant.

Personally I would have punched that guy in the face.
 
Oh yeah, bathrooms are the worst.

Every morning there's a guy on our floor who doesn't believe in sitting his bare ass on the toilet seat. He wraps the toilet up like a mummy before he'll sit down on it. The worst part is he leaves the toilet paper there. In addition, he uses a full roll of paper on his ass and leaves that in the toilet as well. This guys needs to learn a few things:

1. He won't contract any infectious disease from setting his bare ass on a toilet seat.

2. If he's going to use the equivalent of an oakwood rain forrest wiping his ass, he should learn how to flush it down the toilet!
 
Yeah.. dorms DO suck. I sleep over at my girl's dorm every other weekend.. one weekend I almost had to fight off FIVE f_ckin guys at five o'clock in the morning.. cause they were trying to open her door to VIDEOTAPE her.. what the f_ck?!!!! I was pretty pissed let me tell you.. I gave them as much sh!t as I could muster (one of me remember) and they went away.. I wish I had my poker (in my basement at home where I sleep, I have one next to my bed) to bash in their skulls.
 
No way dude.. I ain't sitting down on some guys urine.. desease or not.. but where I come from, there's piss on the seats.
 
Dude, all i can say is your school sux. I lived res last year, and at no point in time was there any questions about liquor. I guess thats why CANADA ROCKS!!! not only can you drink yourself silly at the age of 19 you don't get bothered by half assed rules. What ever happened to human right??? when did they say that liquor is illegal, i mean your at the acceptable age and therefore, can drink!!! FIGHT THE SYSTEM 🙂 GO CANADA
 
The sharing bathrooms kind of sucks. When I'm taking a shower the water temp. doubles whenever someone flushes the toilet. :Q Cinges the hair right off my back.
 
A few of my friends are RA's back at UMich... great group of guys. They're very laid back, and all of them drink/chill with their residents... sorry to hear about your situation. 🙁
 
When you go to your meeting, DON'T show your temper. It might be hard, but be as pleasant as possible. Tell him/her exactly what happened and how you were unaware that you were breaking any rules.

When it comes to dorm life, getting along makes it much easier on everybody so try and work things out.

Also, I know what you mean by how bad dorms are. My senior year my dorm was no bigger than a closet (literally, I had to put thr dresser in the closet to save space). To top it off, the hot water heater broke so I was taking ice cold showers in winter for about 3 months until they managed to fix it.
