I hate coffee. I can't help it. :(

I want to like coffee because of all the cool things that come with it:

coffee breaks
iced coffee
mocha coffee
vanilla coffee
coffee ice cream
coffee shops
coffee coffee coffee coffee.....

I had an experience when I was a kid where I ate coffee grounds, and it made me so sick that to this day if I even taste a HINT of coffee in anything it repulses me. We need to change the flavor of coffee to chocolate so I can join in all the fun.

(writing this from my empty office because everyone went to Starbucks)

I don't like coffee by itself either. It's just too damned bitter to enjoy without some sort of sweetener in it.

Just join the crowd of idiots who run up to Startbucks ordering esoteric chai lattes and fraps. Fun stories knowing people who work at Startbucks...

You are definitely drinking the wrong coffee. If it NEEDS sweetener, then it sucks.

This is stupid logic. Coffee by nature is bitter and an acquired taste.

You need to start with sweetened coffee and work your way to black.

I'm considerably more hardcore about coffee than most and still sweeten my coffee a little cuz it's more enjoyable to drink vs straight black.

Let me know what I should try, and I'll give it a shot.

Given that people have different tastes, is it possible that I'm just more sensitive to any bitterness in my food/drinks?

coffee is bitter. period.

$40 kona beans are still going to be bitter.

Jamaican Blue Mountain

i suggest using a french press

This.

A good batch of Jamaican Blue Mountain is the *only* real coffee I have tasted without a hint of bitterness (other varieties like Kona come close, but not quite). Fresh grind and fresh press = coffee so smooth.

I need to order some more 🙁 Wish it were cheaper, but every oz is worth the money.

i wish it was cheaper as well, that way you could send more of it to me 😀

Don't worry, Anubis. One day I will be ultra rich and I will buy the mountains themselves from Jamaica so I can lower the price and also give away Jamaican coffee to all my friends 😀

One day...

Do you have a lot of experiences like that? Where you have one bad experience and even as an adult you can't get over it? Luckily, I can't think of anything like that in my life. That must be terribly limiting. I don't think your case is unusual though. I hear all the time from friends that had food poisoning once from chicken 20 years ago and now they won't touch chicken. What a shitty life.
