my condolences, especially for the children.

we have a 9mo lab/german shepard mix, first dog ive ever had. hes a great dog(wish he would quit digging, but he gets alot of moles). i hate to think of the sorrow his passing will cause for my children.

Wow, the thought of finding your dog in the morning dead really freaked me out. I'm not sure if I could handle that.... :(

What I find very strange, is the time at which both of my (well, "our" since they were family dogs) dogs died. As it were, they appeared to be doing ok in the afternoon before my parents and I left to go somewhere (this happened in two separate instances, several years apart), but by the time we got back a few hours later, they had fallen and lost control of some bodily functions. Nevertheless, it seems that in both cases they hung on long enough for us to get back and tell them goodbye. Freaky, but comforting in a sad way. :(

Sorry man.

There isn't really anything anyone can say at a time like this to ease the pain, so I'll just say :(.

Sorry man.... I remember when my grandfather had to put his dog down after like 17-18 years... The dog i think got him through the day, hed always take her exercising for 2 miles (keep in mind he was 75), and it truly was a case of man's best friend. It devastated him and I know he still misses her... I know how hard it must be for you..

That happened to us with our last family pet, too. :( He went missing for a few days, which was uncommon for him (we lived on five acres, though, so didn't worry too much), and one day we came home and he was there, but just barely hanging on. He died shortly after. I've only seen my dad cry two times in his life -- at his grandpa's funeral (his grandpa raised him), and when our dog died.

My condolences, XRdirtHead. Losing a pet is always tough. I can't even think about what life would be like without our current monster, Neeko, around. :(
