I'm not going to turn your thread into a pro/anti cyclist thread. To be honest with you, I could care less if you guys ride on or off the road. I am respectful of people on a bike as long as they are respectful as well. I've never had an issue with a rider.
No, I'm not in the habit of "buzzing" people on bikes, nor do I discriminate againts someone for what they are riding on. Unlike yourself (see your sig).</end quote></div>
Does my sig bother you that much?
I don't discriminate against someone for what they ride on/in. I only ask that they think about the choices they make before they make them. Many people buy these vehicles without any thought of whether they actually need one or if they are really as "safe" as they think they are (they aren't BTW) or without giving any thought to the depletion of our natural resources or the environment.
But this thread isn't about SUVs.</end quote></div>
No, it's about you calling some jackass who buzzed you a 'cager' in a clearly derogatory tone, implying he's representative of all car drivers.
If your depiction of the story is the whole story, then the guy's an asshat, and there's no reason to lump him into a group many of the people here fall into. It's like having a bad experience at the GeekSquad desk and trashing all IT people.
Just like in every other arena, no one side to this story (cyclists or motorists) have the asshat market cornered - there's plenty of morons on both sides. For instance, there's the lone biker here who insists on riding down the center of the lane, while he's pedaling uphill at 10 mph for half a mile, in the 45 mph zone, every day at 5 pm, on the busy road, when he could be pedaling up the residential street that runs exactly parallel to it not holding up rush hour traffic. I'm sure he's got plenty of asshat 'cager' stories.
For the record, I drive an earth-raping SUV, and I've got a bunch of reasons for doing it. I also ride a bicycle - and when I used it for commuting, I had the common sense not to ride busy roads. I also drive a motorcycle, and know that I needed to drive defensively, because I can't assume that the person in the car is anything more than a monkey with a driver's license.
