I can't believe someone hasn't heard of the white van scam before. That's older than dirt.

FYI, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale if there are any takers.

First, this wasn't a scam if she's giving a refund. Second, you deserve to be taken if you thought a 3 grand system could be had for $75. The word "retarded" comes to mind.

What the hell? Kijiji? Your signature contains annoying gold text with red highlights? What is your avatar? Number 1? You thought you could get a $4000 item for $50?

Hello?

I went to her the seller's place and of course she wasn't there. I spoke to her boyfriend and he said they are coming down my area on the 23 so we should arrange a meeting then.

Ya right, I might as well forget about returning the speakers.

I am going to sell the 4 small speakers on Kijiji for $10.00 each. They don't look too bad and would be OK for a computer type sound system.

Ill also put a note about the misleading price information on the web in my add.

I use Craig's List to buy and sell stuff all the time.

I have not been able to find anything to buy or been able to sell anything on Kijiji.
(and Kijiji needs a U.S. iPhone app.)

MotionMan

I wrote the guy a nasty note and reported the add.

Keep in mind that people selling these on craigslist sort of sites might be victims of the original scammers vs. the scammers themselves. If you had bought your set from one of the typical sellers of these, you wouldn't be able to return them. If you didn't like them, you might end up putting them up for sale again on the site again to try to get some of your money back.

This guy might not know what he has on his hands.

Self pwnage of the year nomination?

I should probably get the runner-up nomination. I bought EIGHT XP Pro SP3 OEMs off of CL, for a total of $460 bucks. Yep, they were all Chinese fakes. Good fakes though, I didn't notice until a day later, when I checked Microsoft's site.

And, unlike white-van speakers, I can't just resell them, to some unsuspecting party.
(Well, I could, but then I would fear prosecution.)

ouch...

IMO Number1 should have stuck to getting the refund, and Larry should pursue options too - reporting the scammer to the anti-piracy people, suing in small claims, seeing if the police are interested...

Bargains tend to be expensive.

Have you heard of the UK laptop scam? A guy approaches someone in a park with an expensive laptop, offering to sell it for something like 500 pounds (cheap if it is a really powerful one). Victim agrees, amazed at the bargain hes getting. Receives laptop bag. Opens said laptop bag to find it only contains rocks.

I have found that the quality of stereo equipment is inversely proportional to the amount of screens/lights/gauges/etc. on them.

I showed my brother in law a really sweet Yamaha receiver last month (that cost about $1700) and he would not believe that it was any good because it didn't look as "cool" as a $200 Sony with a bunch of blinking lights.

That sub in the OP has two analog gauges and a screen. On a sub? Really?

Ok, I realize you posted your thread yrs. ago but I just had to add to it anyways. About 2 mnths. ago I found the exact same system on the curb outside a nieghbour's house. I call these finds "Curbside Specials" I take things home all the time. I have hooked up the system to my "New Media Center" PC w/ Dolby 5.1 LIVE SoundBlaster card installed hooked up to my 42" Sony LCD TV & I thought I got a great deal. Thought it was even better when I just caught your thread topic Quoting a price over $3000. I'm sorry you paid $80 for it,, just wondered if you ever returned it & got your refund? I'm curious too if you didn't return it, if you ever got it working correctly? I'm having a minor problem with my ST-50, I can't seem to be able to use the AM/FM radio feature & wondered if it perhaps needs a REMOTE for this feature. That is how I found your Thread about the System, I was Googling the system to get the specs to see if a Remote was supposed to be part of my Curbside Special & just wasn't included in the deal & if there was a remote & you may happen to have it still and not using it anymore maybe, just maybe, you may want to part with it. My New Media System works great otherwise. Just would be nice to be able to use the radio once in awhile.
